@nezumih yes, there are a few games that were really well-suited to the lockdown period.

My spouse & I played Ryan Laukat's SLEEPING GODS about 7 times between 2020 and 2022. Each game takes about 20-30 hours, but you can pause & resume the game so one game was generally 2 or 3 weekend days. When you were stuck at home with nothing much else to do, it really helped occupy time.

The sequel, SLEEPING GODS: DISTANT SKIES, arrived in 2023. We've played it 3 times, and I'd like to play it a couple more, but it's harder to focus on it.

Nearing the end of my Sleeping Gods: Distant Skies campaign. Going to miss it, but gosh am I also ready to move on after nearing 40 hours in this world.

I still really liked the game. I even liked the idea of being able to fail forward - if you don't manage a challenge you still get to go on, you just get some sort of penalty or malus. But not the boss battle. There's already a mechanism in boardgames for getting past bosses who are too hard - it's called cheating. Has worked like a charm for decades... #boardgames #sleepinggods

#sleepinggods The story begins with you being thrown into a different world and hello, there's a lady sitting on a rock in the ocean who conveniently explains exactly what you need to do. Ahem, okay. Then you wander around + collect totems until the lady shows up again and essentially says: time up, boss fight! You lost? Try again! Lost again? Try one more time. You still lost? Ah whatever, just continue on with the story anyway. How much more meaningless can a boss battle feel? #boardgames

Played the first session of "Sleeping Gods" tonight, and it's great. Very well written, beautifully illustrated, and the game mechanics are solid and fun. Plus wonderful world-building. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 #boardGames #sleepingGods

The combat system is also really interesting. Each enemy has a card with a grid of locations with icons (health, damage, end-of-turn effects, etc.) Deal damage to all health locations to kill it, but hit a damage location to make it do less damage, etc.
You can assign your hits across the grid (adjacent, but not diagonally), you can even go across to the next enemy (splash damage).

But what I really do like is the idea of getting keywords through quests. When you explore a location you look up its number in the story book and depending on what keywords you have you get to take different decisions/paths.

After hearing so many good things about Sleeping Gods, we played our first little bit today. Very promising! Although I have to say I was not blown away by the intro bit. For a game that's lauded for it's storytelling the first contact was pretty shallow. There's a storm and you end up in a different world where the first thing you see is a woman sitting on a rock, conveniently explaining exactly what you need to do? Oh come on, put in some effort! 😆 #boardgames #sleepinggods

Things went better today, seems we were unlucky with our first session. For those that know, we had "Ulo" as our first selected location!!!
