GM ogłosiło, że w nowych pojazdach elektrycznych zastąpi CarPlay i Android Auto własną platformą Ultifi.

Decyzja już zdążyła wzbudzić kontrowersje, ponieważ CarPlay jest popularnym rozwiązaniem wśród kierowców (wg wielu statystyk danych o rynku nawet najpopularniejszym).

Ultifi ma zapewnić pełną integrację z ekosystemem GM, co według producenta poprawi doświadczenie użytkownika. Baris Cetinok z GM argumentuje, że kontrola nad całością systemu pozwoli na lepszą płynność i funkcjonalność, bez konieczności przełączania się między różnymi interfejsami.

Cetinok dołączył do GM kilka miesięcy po ogłoszeniu decyzji o wycofaniu CarPlay i Android Auto, ale nic dziwnego, że popiera decyzję producenta samochodów. Powiedział Patelowi, że GM wierzy z „silnym przekonaniem”, że stworzenie całego doświadczenia w pojeździe zapewnia „lepsze wrażenia klienta” dzięki „magii end-to-end”.
