The family Christmas season has went swimmingly. We've actually finished 2 complete games of #twilightimperium, after staring forlornly at it sitting on the shelf for a year and a half.
As I understand it, TI is sort of the "War and Peace" or "Moby Dick" of board games -- it's epically large, with a reputation for being even bigger and harder to play than it actually is. It took us around 10 hours for the first game, with 4 people who'd never played it before, and maybe 6 or 7 hours for the second game.
We're obviously going to need to play it again soon, because I've now had victory snatched away from me at the very last second twice in a row, first by my daughter (who does that sort of thing to me practically every game we play, so it wasn't really surprising), and second by my wife, who was "innocently" playing along until she suddenly scored all of the victory points in the world and went from "not really competing to win" to massively ahead in a few seconds.
