Suddenly the hero saw that the living too are dead and that we can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasure; for our hearts are not strong enough to love every moment.
    #ThorntonWilder (1897-1975), The Woman of Andros (1930)

  9. On this date in 1938, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer-winning play, OUR TOWN, opened. One of the things that was fun about writing BROADWAY REVIVAL was having my time traveler, David Greenbaum, attend classic shows like this. If you had a time machine, wouldn’t you do that?

But it was a challenge as a writer to consider how David’s views would be tempered by nearly 150 years of theatre history.

  11. "But soon we shall die and all memory of those five will have left the earth, and we ourselves shall be loved for a while and forgotten. But the love will have been enough; all those impulses of love return to the love that made them. Even memory is not necessary for love. There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brid goodreads.com/book/show/92508. #ThorntonWilder #spirituality #love #soul #literature
