@themagpi Ooh, well now that I know this is a thing, here's the second Teletext Pi setup I've put together.
Raspberry Pi 1 from eBay (but somehow new in box/bag), a caravan TV given to me by a neighbour, and VBIT software by @peterkvt80.
(It also suits me down to the ground that you were a day late...I'm at least a day late for most things...I was nearly a day late for #Teletext50! 😂 )
-
I didn't get around to mentioning before #Teletext50, that I feel honoured for #Nemetext to have been added to the services available via the software you can use to get Teletext on your own TV using a Raspberry Pi.
I'll post a link in the replies to a guide that shows you how!

By the way, I have since been told that subtitling came to teletext one year later (in 1975).

Ever wondered how I make Level 2.5 #teletext pages?
QTeletextMaker was demonstrated at the #teletext50 event in Cambridge. Live-streamed courtesy of @JamieNemeth on Twitch TV, where alas the recordings only stay up for 14 days so it'll disappear about 6th October. A more permanent YouTube re-edit may appear sometime after...

TOMORROW, MONDAY MORNING - #teletext50 will be on @bbcbreakfast, with Mort Smith, Ceefax’s first sub-editor who was there at the start, and (hopefully) me being interviewed by @timmuffett. Set your videos :-) (pic @thatothercarlos)

Got home ok from #teletext50 - what a great weekend, with lots of expert panellists, brilliant techies and talented artists. And cake! Here’s a picture of me with a part of the first digital Ceefax computer, Esmeralda

Happy #teletext50 !!!
Here is a piece of art I submitted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Teletext.

CEEFAX – New technology (1992)
Technological advances speed up the editing and the display of #Ceefax :ceefax: pages

I will be at the #teletext50 event in Cambridge tomorrow, if anyone wants to say hello :)

Too late to cancel the hotel. Car has new spark plugs. Portable streaming kit will get a dry run tonight.
I'll let you know on the day when I'm up-and-running with the Twitch live stream! If I'm not on camera, I will be in chat. No alerts, no overlays.

Ahead of a new song and video next month, those familiar with Planet Sound on Teletext and the general Ceefax appreciators out there might enjoy the new look they've inspired... https://robertafidora.com/mailing-list #Music #RetroGraphics #OldTech #RetroTech #Musician #Teletext #FediMusic #FediArt #Teletext50

The question that's been on no-one's lips for over a year..."will Jamie ever finish writing that #ChunkyFringe blog?"
And the answer is...no!
But I've published my work-in-progress anyway 😛
-
This is the sort of prep I was doing in the hotel at silly o'clock the night before #ChunkyFringe.
So with days - plural - until #Teletext50, I'm counting this as progress!
Having said that, this portable streaming PC still has over a year of Windows updates to catch up on...

One week until #Teletext50 at Cambridge!
Here's a #teletext recreation of a poster I saw at the supermarket, an earlier version of which I somehow put onto every TV at Chunky Fringe 2021. A Level 2.5 rendering and two Level 1 renderings, with and without double size text.
-
Don't forget you can also post your artworks (whether WeeklyTeletextArt or anything else) directly to Chunkytext via the Block Party Edit Server which is live again for the #Teletext50 event next week in Cambridge blockparty.zxnet.co.uk

Over a year of no changes to Nemetext, and now there's not one, not two, not three, but FOUR function buttons on the remote?!
#Teletext50 really has spurred me on! And @zxguesser unwittingly laying down the gauntlet after I added reveal/hold/index. "Size will be fun."
-
The online #Teletext editing server is now live at blockparty.zxnet.co.uk, ready for #Teletext50 at the end of next week.
This system lets you upload pages *directly* to the #ChunkyText service, so give it a go and create a page today. 🎨

Nemboozle is live!
It's the first full test of my Bamboozle Generator, which I've been fixing up from a beta I made a year ago, inspired by the upcoming #Teletext50.
99% worked...a bug briefly meant I couldn't win my own quiz on a real TV 🤪
Fixed now, links below.

There's an increasing possibility that my first Twitch stream of 2024 will be from #Teletext50!
I still have lots going on IRL, so playing it safe and still calling it a possibility...but the accommodation's booked, and I've ordered the SIM for my mobile 4G router...so...

It's that time again where I blow the cobwebs off Chunkytext and start updating the content ready for #Teletext50
If *you* want a #teletext page on the service to advertise your podcast, twitch stream, platypus sauna and spa complex, etc. get in touch! -
It's 2024! This year is the 50th anniversary of the launch of Ceefax, and we'd love you to come to its birthday party! Lots of teletext enthusiasts and I will be at the Centre for Computing History in Cambridge over the weekend of 21/22 September with lots of interactive demos. Come and hang out! More details to follow. #teletext50
