  2. how would one go about unionizing when even just your direct teammates are all in different countries?

my understanding is that a union is defined as simply as "two or more workers taking action together to improve their working conditions", but does that hold up if me (USA) and, say, a Canadian teammate took a small collective action? I wonder if NLRB or labor protections would be like " nope fuck you" if nobody else involved is in the US, that's not protected concerted activity

  3. It’s so awesome that tech workers are finally pushing to unionize at so many places. I’ve been union for a decade and although it’s not specifically a tech union, it’s still a level of support and protection that has proved invaluable.

Besides vocal support how else can I support y’all out there pushing for tech unions? #union #techunion

  4. @hrefna Just imagine what would happen if you had a national sys admin Union with idk, 80% of all sys admins.

And then you go on strike.

All servers just run online Doom deathmatches. The entire internet is just doom. #GeneralStrike #TechUnion

  5. I'm a member of the UTAW (United Tech and Allied Workers) - part of the Communication Workers Union.
I hope I never need to ask them for anything but £2 a month to support their work and know they are there if I ever need them is very cheap.

  6. @mayel good question - yes we are both. The logic there is fourfold:

    * be part of a larger formation that could coordinate benefits and services we as a smaller coop can't do alone
    * more effectively participate in the growing #techunion movement needed to insist on ethical tech
    * better lend solidarity to workers in other industries
    * ensure our own coop stays democratic with a formal mechanism of worker control (we've seen other coops grow to become reformist/exploitative of workers)

  7. #Techunion members here in Denver are interested in taking on some work as a loose #coop of freelancers, especially around election season for candidates.

Any advice or resources for this loose #freelancer coop model?
