The doors of Langton Manor hold many secrets, but none so heavy as those kept by Samuel the butler. As the 3-year anniversary of the series approaches, I find myself looking back at where this game first began:

So long since I posted here.
So, I'm currently working on a card game I'm designing, and I need to know if there's enough interest in things like this over here ☺️

I've been messing around with how target numbers work, and because my attribute system is resource based and it's possible to run out of attribute dice, it may be possible to have set dc's for many combat actions, and to not have to give any muscle/agility/scout/study/charm attributes to monsters.
This makes making monsters far easier.

Went through cleaning up a large variety of old notes about my TTRPG and applying them to the document or archiving them.
Notes include alchemy, combat, adventure ideas, and a lot of vibes.

Spent a lot of time this week on making new ancestry's for character creation, fixing up how narrative abilities are explained, redoing the form fillable pdf character sheet, and adding a few images to the character creation overview.

Kirsten and I are about to go live in 10 minutes, to chat about QUESTABELL, game design, joy, validation, or anything else we get asked about. :-)

I always equivocate over Ablative Armour as:
+Armour points that go away when used+Total negation of one hit that goes away when used
b\c iSee them both as modeling the "purpose & fantasy" of AA equally but mechanically they're quite distinct in power level.

For anyone else dabbling in making games, do you also find yourself making the expansion before you’ve finalized the base game? 😛
I find it’s actually been helpful for me to keep the initial game from getting to complex or bloated by relegating some parts to an expansion, but it also feels silly to get too ahead of myself.

I asked my manufacturer what it would cost to add Braille embossing to my game. Not because I think Braille readers are lining up to play, but, y'know, it'd be cool if they COULD.
So this IS a thing the factory can do--I wasn't even sure-- but for a 1,000-unit run, 2-sided embossing would bump the unit cost up $2.38, which unfortunately puts it firmly into "stretch goal" territory for me.
...my next game will have less than 500 cards.

Got 4 more people to try making characters using my TTRPG rules.
As you may expect, lots of players do not read the character creation rules and try to interpret what they can from the character sheet at a glance, which lead to interesting notes about the character sheet itself.
I've made adjustments for clarity and to make it easier to assume how many of each type of feature you get.
I should make certain you can know the genre just from the character sheet.

I'm thinking about using a horizontal character sheet for my tabletop RPG, or a character sheet that folds into a booklet.
What do you think about that?

Some rules for my TTRPG about how to roleplay outside of sessions, and some of the roleplay scenarios the GM can give special rewards for.

In that example, though each game has wildly variable setup, I would consider that one game.
For me, I think the difference is that the 'planned' sheets each have different elements pondered and designed by the designer.
Similarly, if I coded an AI to generate millions of possible sheets then I'd consider that one game.
But I acknowledge that the AI-driven version would be a bigger project and might be superior.
When I say that I consider each sheet a separate game, that's not a quality judgement. More to underscore the amount of control I - as the designer - have in each sheet.
