  1. @cheeldcharles I think I am good, I have a lifetime supply. But for new RPN calculators, #swissmicros is where it is at. I have a DM15L which is great, and seriously tempted by the DM32.

  2. @RFDave What are your clues regarding a #SwissMicros DM51 model? 😳 Was there ever any talk/speculation about it?

  3. Made a little video with a speed comparison between the (old) #DM42 running the #C47 firmware and the new #R47 hardware #calculator from #SwissMicros. 👉 youtu.be/BZqVe10dhRc?si=PJIPC- – The R47 (which is, in fact, a DM42n hardware under the hood) is pretty much exactly three times faster – at least in this little, single use case of #primefactorization. #math

  5. @JakeSparkleChicken Yes, thank you, I think so, too. 😊 It’s so vastly complex and stuffed full of functionality – will take a long time to learn everything! #C47 #R47 #SwissMicros #calculator

  6. It finally arrived! The brand new #SwissMicros #R47 #calculator! Finally USB-C and the famous & incredibly powerful #C47 firmware in a real hardware calc! Connecting to an iPad and accessing files (like screenshots) works flawlessly. 🎉🍾🥳💃🕺 Can your pocket (!) calculator compute the factorial of 2123? The result is in the photo & screenshot at stack level 4 (T register), a number with exponent *10^6143. 🤯

  7. Hrmm, writing small programs isn't too difficult once you know where the functions are, but I don't know how to make them easily accessible which would be nice via the menuing system. Also, the documentation for the `db48x` firmware kinda stops at the programming section.

  8. @AmenZwa I have checked #swissmicros a couple months ago and was disappointed that the OS is not as good as the HP50g I own even though the CPU is much more powerful, but then I discovered a new custom OS #db48x is released targeting DM32/42 with a powerful CAS comparable to 50g that is also available as desktop/smartphone application github.com/c3d/db48x

  9. Fighting Words:

If you, like me, are still using #calculators in 2025, the only sensible input method for such ingenious devices is the equally ingenious Reverse-Polish Notation (#RPN), and the only acceptable manufacturer of such devices was the original Hewlett-Packard (HP).

Vintage #HP RPN all the way, baby! Ah well, OK; new #SwissMicros RPN, too.

  10. YAY, I finally converted my good old 1st gen #SwissMicros DM42 #calculator into an exciting, feature-packed C47 calculator, including a new keyboard bezel thanks to my buddy @mickyroth! 🙏 Now diving into the rabbit hole of all. these. features. 🤯 Wanna learn more? 👉 47calc.com

  11. Did you know that you can actually upgrade your #DM42 #calculator’s #Free42 version? #SwissMicros hasn‘t updated Thomas Okken‘s awesome #HP42S simulator that runs on their DM42 hardware, it‘s still on version 3.0.15 and was last updated in October 2022.
The current Free42 version is 3.1.8, dated 2024-04-24. And guess what: GitHub user Regis Verpillot accepted the challenge to bring this latest version to the DM42 hardware! 🎉🍾🥳💃🕺 👉 github.com/rverpillot/free42

  12. Today I received my long awaited HP 15C calculator 🥳
It’s quite a contrast from the #SwissMicros DM15L I’ve been using so far. It’s lighter, the keys are easier to press and the screen updates quicker, making it feel snappier.
It’s by far no match to the original series but it’s the closest you can get these days..

  13. I just discovered one of the funniest #jokes in recent times: someone on eBay is peddling an #HP-35s for $500!

    Buy a #SwissMicros, instead.

  14. A hands-on look at the SwissMicros DM42, the world’s most precise pocket calculator

I know I have posted a month back about this calculator, but this video unboxing and test, is really entertaining to watch (as testified by the over 430k views so far). It just makes me want to have one, although I really don't have a need for it (I have an HP41CV if I really need one).

The DM42 is a clone and improvement of the famous HP42S, with open source firmware based on the Free42 platform. SwissMicros has done an excellent job though on the build and presentation. It is also an excellent example of how repairability should be done.
