  1. Stationeers in a nutshell:

Day 0: "Oh, this looks kinda nice"
Day 30" "...so the ideal gas constant is the product of Avogadro constant and Boltzmann constant..."

  2. Found someone to play Stationeers with while playing Baldurs Gate 3 with another group of people. First of all, I should reconsider to choose less time intensive games ...

Anyway, we are not creating a board to plan our station 😁 currently thinking about the power and air filtration.

Really happy I found someone to play Stationeers with, it's a great game but there is so much to do as a single player.

  3. I've spent a very enjoyable few days over Christmas playing #Stationeers with my brother and a misc person from my Steam friends list.

Co-op multiplayer really changes and improves the game. A lot of builds that are fine for single player become inadequate, but on the other hand you can get so much more done with more people available.

N.b. I think this is a game where open servers are infeasible; a griefer would be able to ruin the game in seconds.

  4. Two more things:

    - It runs really well via Steam for Linux

    - 16 GB of RAM probably won't be enough; I would recommend 32 GB

  5. Further thoughts on #Stationeers: I'm still playing this obsessively.

It's nice to play around with the thermofluid mechanics and control theory that I haven't touched in 20 years. The survival, base building and systems engineering elements of the game are very enjoyable.

I think the mining gameplay is a little tedious and could be improved

If you enjoyed #Factorio or #OxygenNotIncluded, I highly recommend Stationeers. There's currently a Steam sale.

  6. #Stationeers (from RocketWerkz) is a game that I hadn't come across until very recently, but it interests me in a way that no game since #Factorio has.

I enjoy the way that gases and liquids are simulated, and having to write simple but extremely practical assembly programs to automate the processes necessary to survival. I've already sunk a tonne of time into it.

“Players would benefit from an undergraduate level education in general engineering,” is a high barrier to entry, though.

  7. @jimbob There are a bunch of video games where you need to do actual programming inside the game to accomplish things, without being games about programming.

For example: #Stationeers requires the user to program microcontrollers using MIPS-like assembly and insert them into devices

The Zachtronics puzzle games (e.g. #ShenzhenIO) are all fundamentally about programming.

If 10yo is already into gaming, this could be a good way to learn the basics.

  8. I think it's time for a new Mars run on Stationeers. I haven't played with the newest update.

  9. So I guess with me trying to be active here it might be useful for me to give a quick Intro post.

    I'm into #vr #scifi , languages especially #japanese and #swedish . Some of my fave video games are #KSP #Stationeers #cyberpunk and #subnautica .

I was into decentralization before it was a grift and I deeply value authentic connection.

Some of my Fave authors are #BeckyChambers and #JRRTolkein .

I also am big on feminist theory and intersectionality with disability.

  10. A couple different angles on my current vulcan base in Stationeers. The red tanks are for collecting hot daytime air to power stirling engines at night.

The blue tanks next to them collect cool night time air for compression and pollutant condensation, to cool the interior of the base.

The blue tanks on the other side of the base are the beginning of my water generation system.

  11. THEY LIVE!

LAaRE coding is such a pain in the ass, but when it works, omg, pure win. Fully automated fern harvesting and replanting. The ferns are sent for composting to generate nitrogen.

  12. Update: It wasn’t a fluke, it works very well. I had to put IC code in to turn the evaporators off automatically when it drops below zero. Extremely effective on vulcan, but would be hard to do on other planets where it’s difficult to get pollutant at a temp below 140c. Don’t think it would work on venus.

I now have several hundred liters of liquid pollutant that I can use to flash chill my base. Neat!

  13. That feel when you build a cooling system that you saw a streamer use, and make one small change to it to try to reduce the amount of noise it produces… and it not only makes the system silent, but the cooling efficiency skyrockets and you rapidly shut down after the CO2 carrier line drops 80c in 30 seconds and is rapidly heading for dry ice territory. 😬😅

Tomorrow I need to find out if that was a fluke, or if it really is working that well.

  14. We have talked a lot about Kitten Space Agency lately. But does Rocketwerkz, the studio behind the potential KSP successor, have the DNA to build a fun space game?

I tried their older titles, Icarus and Stationeers, to find out!

  15. As my vacation comes to a close, I finished off the last few things I wanted to do in my #Stationeers save.

I restructured the power wall to make things a little clearer, and rewrote my IC10 code so that it could all be done by a single chip instead of 3. gist.github.com/Twipped/77bf1b

I have 2 battery banks, the small cells are primary storage, and the large cells are overcharge storage, which only fill up during wind storms, when my turbines are running at max output.

  16. I also worked on a bit of beautification, so I'm not looking at iron walls all day. It also reduces the chances of an errant misplaced wrench click opening my base up to the outside. #stationeers

  17. I am finally growing plants on venus! I have some semblance of climate control! I have a stable power grid, at last!

Oh yeah, it's all coming together.

    #Stationeers

  18. The fruits of today's #Stationeers labors. I now have a full gas management system. Mixed/Waste gas goes into the brown tank where it will be cooled (that's the next thing to build) and then filtered off into the distinct storage tanks. Each filtration unit has a custom IC program to only turn on when the temp gets below 20C, and there's enough gas to bother filtering.

  19. I’ve been playing a new #Stationeers save, on Venus. Tonight while digging, I accidentally let atmosphere into a cave that I’d only closed off from my base with an iron wall. The wall burst, filling my base with 400°C CO2.

That temperature spike caused a nitrogen tank to overheat and explode. The blast wrecked my entire power grid and oxygen cooling system, venting all my O2 to the outside.

It’s gonna take a lot of deaths from asphyxiation before I’m able to buy more from a trader.

  20. If I spun up a #Stationeers server, would anyone be interested in playing on it? Genuine interest, mind, a desire to actually build.

I did some multiplayer with a friend last night and it was a lot of fun. Thinking it could be enjoyable to see what a group of people could create. Maybe we could even work towards terraforming Mars.

  21. I suck at playing it, but #Stationeers is a solid game with plenty of room to geek out in some way.

  22. Oh thank god, the lamps have been reduced to 1 watt. 50 watts for an LED was so ludacris. #stationeers
