A lovely walk over Simonside via Great Tosson.

I hiked up Simonside today. As I wanted to avoid the steep western path in the icy conditions but make it a mostly round walk I took an unconventional route basically going straight up to the ridge from Simonside car park. This was more difficult than expected, my feet sinking in the snow to well above my knees on the bit between the ridge walk and the actual ridge.

I was busy all day, but then went out for a quick evening walk. I was rewarded by the sun setting over the snow covered Simonside hills.

2024's adventures off to a reasonable start, albeit a rather chilly start!! 🤣 Following a section of the #SandstoneWay towards #Simonside Crags... which will hopefully be the scene of some climbing fun when the risk of frostbite diminishes! #Northumberland #MTB (PS: The Sandstone Way is blocked by fallen trees near Gunner's Box and you have to scramble through a couple of ditches to safely navigate around them.)
