Semi-weird thoughts time. I'm so glad they demolished the old disused public conveniences on the Rothbury riverside path. They reveal the base of this lovely beech tree, part of the Rothbury Tree Trail https://www.rothburytrees.uk/tree-trail/

I was quite sad to see this tree gone on my usual morning walk. I can see why though. It used to make ominous creaking sounds in windy weather and it was obviously rotten inside.

The "Dragon's head", in the grounds of Cragside, Northumberland, UK. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk here from home, which I did today.

An interesting talk today by Northumberland Wildlife Trusts on their potential estate purchase. Their slideshow included an old map of the Simonside and Lordenshaw area. It included a marking for a "Selbus Cave", which is a bit of a mystery. It doesn't appear on modern OS maps, note does any other cave to the south of Simonside.

Cottage rooftops and chimney pots among the trees on the Cragside Estate at Rothbury, Northumberland.
Nearby is the real crowd-puller, the Tudor Revival country house that was the home of William Armstrong, 1st Baron Armstrong, founder of the Armstrong Whitworth armaments firm.
However, the estate, which is in the care of the National Trust, covers a large area of Northumbrian countryside that is criss-crossed with miles of paths and a drive-through route.
Meanwhile, a number of these cottages, which were once homes to estate workers, are now given over to holiday accommodation.#england #northumberland #rothbury #countryside #nationaltrust #july #summer #photography

There are a lot of interesting cars in the Beggar's Rigg car park, Rothbury, today. I was just taking recycling to the bottle bank, but I had to stop and take a look. Seeing how clean the engine was, I think these are in show condition.
I don't really know much about American cars, but they were interesting.Im sure someone can tell me exactly what they are.

A shaded forest path winds through lush greenery and ferns, with sunlight dappling the trail as it passes beneath towering evergreens and alongside weathered rock faces. Nestled in the heart of the Northumberland countryside near Rothbury, the trail offers a peaceful escape ideal for a leisurely #CountrysideWalk. The surrounding woodland and rocky outcrops form part of the scenic #NatureTrail routes popular with walkers exploring the Coquet Valley and its #ScenicViews. The area’s tranquil beauty and rich greenery make it a quintessential #ForestPath experience in rural Northumberland.

It's amazing what you find just a few metres off the path.
