In my latest paper, I develop a comparative study of Iris Murdoch’s moral philosophy through the lens of phenomenology, Platonic ethics, and critiques of modern selfhood. The essay argues that morality begins in perception, where clear vision becomes the foundation of justice and love.

#SimoneWeil:
"És impossible #perdonar algú que ens ha fet mal si aquest mal ens ha fet sentir degradats. Hem de gosar pensar que no ens ha degradat, sinó que ha revelat a quin nivell estem de veritat"
I afegeixo jo, que som nosaltres mateixos qui donem senyals sobre a quin nivell ens situem. Els ofensors, tant sols ho capten i actuen en consequencia.

It has taken me 7 months, but I finally finished reading SIMONE WEIL: A LIFE by Simone Pétrement (1973, transl. 1976).
Even though I alraady knew the tragic ending of Weil's too-brief life...
...still, I feel very much like I just witnessed the death of a dear friend, admired mentor, and prophet who accurately described what we're living in now.
Rest in peace and grace, Simone Weil. You were magic, and still are.

Autonomies: **Simone Weil: Reflections on barbarism (1939)**
https://autonomies.org/2025/12/simone-weil-reflections-on-barbarism-1939/
Many people nowadays, moved by the horrors of every kind that our time provides in a number overwhelming for anyone the least bit sensitive, think that, as a result of an excessively great technical power, or a kind of moral … Continue reading →

https://autonomies.org/2025/12/simone-weil-reflections-on-war/
The perspectives of a revolution seem therefore quite restricted. For can a revolution avoid war? It is, however, on this feeble chance that we must stake everything or abandon all hope. Simone Weil The masks have fallen away, or they … Continue reading →

https://autonomies.org/2025/12/simone-weil-the-power-of-words/
In every sphere, we seem to have lost the very elements of intelligence: the ideas of limit, measure, degree, proportion, relation, comparison, contingency, interdependence, interrelation of means and ends. To keep to the social level, our political universe is peopled … Continue reading →

The agora trains us to scan, assess, move on.
Attention cuts against that grain. When someone offers it fully — without urgency or transaction — it changes how a space feels and what becomes possible inside it.

Interesting....
"On November 21 [, 1938, #SimoneWeil] participate in a debate about Jewish immigration to Palestine and the terrorism with which the Arabs fought against this immigration. Simone feared Arab nationalism...but she also feared Jewish nationalism. Her contribution to the debate is summarized as follows by [economist Guillaume de] Tarde: 'S. Weil sees another danger in the Jewish move to Palestine: why create a new nationality?

What #SimoneWeil wrote about France's betrayal of Czechoslovakia in 1938 feels very familiar to this US-American living through the awfulness of the #TrumpRegime:
"We search for ourselves as we still were yesterday and cannot find ourselves, not because we have been renewed by some effort of thought or action, but because between yesterday and today there occurred, outside of us and against our will, and event -- this is what it means to be humiliated....

@evan I voted "About a year" because that's when I was doing research for my philosophy book, which included reading up on history.
I'm currently reading the biography of #SimoneWeil by Simone Pétrement, and that's full of a lot of 1930s and early 1940s history. But I don't know if that counts as "a book about history."

Further channeling #SimoneWeil:
Trump et al., call us "unAmerican" -- yea verily, "antiAmerican" -- for protesting their illegal regime, their illegal ICE raids, their illegal government shutdown tactics -- they vilify us for daring to disagree with Adolf "the Orange" Twitler --
but it is currently the US-American state itself that is guilty of hateful unAmerican maneuvers and antiAmericanism, because its every action and policy make the USA hateful.

Still plugging away at Simone Pétrement's ultra-high-density biography of #SimoneWeil. In October 1937, Weil observed that Nazi propaganda concerning the "Aryan master race" was meant to
"keep the German people in breathless suspense with the mirage of a great future."
This illustrates yet again that #fascism has no imagination. The #TrumpRegime is just regurgitating the same old shit that every totalitarian government has ever used to prop itself up & keep the population stupid & controlled.

"Simone Weil vs the Existentialists
In Simone Weil's brief life she:
- was one of only five women to get a philosophy degree at École Normale
- hosted and debated Trotsky in France
- worked for a year in a factory
- fought in the Spanish Civil war
- worked in the French resistance
- became an influential Christian mystica" -
This day's online discourse has been particularly tiring for various reasons on multiple levels. This is why I set limits on how much time I spend here -- and my limits aren't nearly strict enough.
I gonna read Simone Weil before I go to bed.
"Grace fills empty spaces, but it can only enter where there is a void to receive it, and it is grace itself which makes this void."
