Friday September 25th blockade on a railway line near the port of #Hamburg halted the transport of military equipment and the logistics for a military exercise dubbed “Red Storm Charlie.” Organised by dozens of environmental activists, a banner placed across the tracks proclaimed: “There is no #climatejustice in a militarised world.”

De Nederlandse politiek is bevangen door een levensgevaarlijke oorlogskoorts. Onder het mom van veiligheid worden miljarden naar bewapening gestuurd, sociale zekerheid en democratische rechten onder druk gezet en wordt Nederland steeds verder meegesleept in internationale escalatie. Deze koers maakt ons niet veiliger, maar brengt oorlog en catastrofe juist dichterbij. Wij eisen een koerswijziging: weg van militarisering en escalatie, en richting vrede, diplomatie, sociale veiligheid en een onafhankelijke Nederlandse vredespolitiek.

On Norway’s Oslo fjord, activists battle Chemring Nobel’s plan for Europe’s biggest explosives plant
‚On 2 April this year, a group of activists occupied an abandoned military barrack in Hurummarka, a region on Oslo’s fjord, just south of the Norwegian capital.
They had no access to clean water, and improvised a solar system for electricity to be able to stay in an old house on a shooting range that’s lain inactive for a decade.
All this because one of Europe’s leading arms manufacturers, and major Nato supplier, Norway’s Chemring Nobel, wants to build the continent’s largest explosives factory on that very land.
The area that has become its own minor conflict zone is nestled in a small valley in Hurum – although the area for the complex’s feasibility study spans an enormous 22 square km.
Five months after occupying the space, the activists from Norway plus other Nato member states have been holding events for the public, dealing with occasional police interference, while maintaining anonymity….‘

On 10 July, we’ll be taking to the streets as part of the weekend of action against the Rheinmetall arms factory in Wedding.
Come along to the protest rally against the militarisation of the healthcare system!

The arms build-up doesn’t stop at our hospitals: Hospitals are to become a building block of ‘total defence’.
What this means in practice:

➡️ Reverse triage: lightly injured soldiers first, so they can return to the front line; seriously injured civilians must wait.
⠀
➡️ Powers handed to the military: the Bundeswehr is to have a say in how long we work and which hospitals close. As a result, economic and political pressure is being used to systematically close rehabilitation clinics and rural hospitals vital to healthcare provision, whilst trauma centres at NATO bases remain open!

In 1916 the US entered WW1. Goldman and Berkman heavily campaigned against militarism and encouraged people to resist conscription. They were arrested in 1917 for interference with military operations (which included recruitment) and were sentenced to two years imprisonment and the possibility of deportation afterwards. In prison she became friends with two other anarchist women. They were released in 1919, and a few months later they were deported to Russia.
