  9. 3/ lol so i guess whoever hacked america's core bank regulator (#OCC) was in the OCC's computer systems reading people's emails for most of a year

    Attribution for the source of the hack has not been made though article notes some vague similarities to other Chinese #SilkTyphoon operations.

    The charged individuals all played a “key role” in China’s hacker-for-hire ecosystem, a senior DOJ official said on a background call with reporters, including TechCrunch, on Wednesday. The official added that those charged, which includes contract hackers and Chinese law enforcement officials, targeted organizations in the U.S. and worldwide for the purposes of “suppressing free speech and religious freedoms.”

    The DOJ also confirmed that two of the indicted individuals are linked to the China government-backed hacking group APT27, or Silk Typhoon."

    The threat actors also hacked the Treasury's Office of Financial Research, but the impact of this breach is still being assessed. However, there was no evidence that the Chinese hackers maintained access to the Treasury systems after the compromised BeyondTrust instance was shut down. #CISA also said on Monday that the Treasury Department breach did not impact other federal agencies.
