  6. anyway, on to the new projects
    most interesting are:
    - year round #lrta-#nts connection, no word on whether it will be at pheasant lane or in nashua proper
    - #mvrta route into salem nh to connect to the #mta 23 (and obviously the many shopping destinations there...)
    - #pvta route from ware to holyoke
    - funding for the #srta to work with #ripta to bump frequency on the 24l; not sure how this will work in practice, but will be nice to finally get this up from rush only

  10. Watching the #RIPTA 50 and 58 chase each other - ProTip: instead of cutting service, expand the 50 and 58 and have a connector bus at Shaw’s. Hub & Spoke don’t work.

  12. @c_9 @humantransit I hear that - #RIPTA in Rhode Island is gutting over a dozen lines and reducing 30 more.

Tiny state, less busses, more cars. Public transit has to fight:

    1) Social Stigma
    2) The Car's Social Identity
    3) Red lights
    4) Bad or no advertising (You can use your phone to pay for transit - who knew? Most non-riders!)

Good law can at least fix number 3, and maybe even 4. But without it, they'll keep gutting.

  17. #RI is GUTTING its #RIPTA #transit system. They're ELIMINATING *16* routes, reducing *42* more, because our legislators can't imagine a commute without their car.

Took the #bus from the boonies today as I normally do. I never needed my car for my commute. Most Rhodies don't, until now.

If you live in RI, even if you take a car, less busses = more cars, more traffic for you. Tell governor #McKee to step up.

The bus is good. Try it, before you can't.

  24. in other far more depressing news the proposed #ripta cuts are here

cuts across the board, from full routes to frequencies to span of service, and all types of routes, from the r line to the 301

very very bad if all of this goes through (i mean, the 1 running every 32 minutes would be a bit of a joke)

  27. Some complain about #RhodeIsland's #RIPTA but honestly, as I'm riding right now, it's a 'decent' #transit system to the rest of RI.

It's lacking in several factors, like:
    - It's a Hub and Spoke bus system where all routes lead to #Providence making going elsewhere tedious.
    - No light rail #train system to move the majority of passengers up and down the RI coast.
    - The Hub, Kennedy Plaza, is not a good place and too far from the train station to connect to #Boston.

    RI should keep pushing.

  29. Vehicle drove way over the curb and destroyed my #bus stop sign. So one day the bus driver is like “I keep picking you up at not a bus stop” and I’m like “bro someone destroyed the light post that had the sign on it” and my man had the gall to say he won’t pick me up at that spot anymore since there’s no sign.

So TIL bad drivers can literally steal #transit stops just by destroying the posts they are on. Thanks #RIPTA

  32. @benfulton Write your representative now. #RIPTA was going to cut 8 #bus #transit routes and reduce another 5 because of a “driver shortage” and all it took was someone to say “have you tried a hiring sprint with a competitive wage and help getting the CDL?”

Literally school bus drivers were getting paid more than RIPTA drivers.

Let’s just say the cuts have been tabled.

  36. looks like the #mvrta is moving its #lawrence hub to the #mbta commuter rail station. while this is good for multimodality, the station is somewhat isolated from downtown, being a 15 minute walk from lawrence's main common that the current hub at buckley is adjacent to. now, it's not in the middle of nowhere and it's certainly more complicated than #ripta's blatant joke of a proposal, and most north side routes will probably continue serving downtown
