Wings Up on Cornmarket Street
A crow lifted off the top of the barrier around the old Paintwell shop on Cornmarket Street, Cork, as I approached to get a closer shot. Its friends had already departed, but this one was cleaning its feathers and only looked up a moment b ...

Access at Own Risk
The rain was falling steadily as I photographed this sign on the Sheep’s Head peninsula.
Curious about the sign, I looked up The Anchorage and found this for sale page saying it was recently sold, but an archive.org copy from 2019 shows the seller was looking for €695,000 back then.

Palimpsest Signage, Hyde Park Barracks, Sydney, NSW, Australia
https://welchwrite.com/blog/2026/06/07/signage/
Follow My Photos on Pixelfed: https://pixelfed.social/p/douglaswelch/969299126413281032In textual studies, a palimpsest (/ˈpælɪmpsɛst/) is a manuscript page, either from a scroll or a book, from which the text has been scraped or washed off in preparation for reuse[1] in the form of another document.[2] Parchment was made of lamb, calf, or goat skin and was expensive and not readily available, so, in the interest of economy, a page was often re-used by scraping off the previous writing. In colloquial usage, the term palimpsest is also used in architecture, archaeology and geomorphology to denote an object made or worked upon for one purpose and later reused for another; for example, a monumental brass on which the blank reverse side has been re-engraved.[3 — Wikipedia

Animal friendly infrastructure - Road ecology
"Some 40 million miles of roadways encircle the earth, yet we tend to regard them only as infrastructure for human convenience. While roads are so ubiquitous they’re practically invisible to us, wild animals experience them as entirely alien forces of death and disruption. , the harms of highways extend far beyond roadkill. "

Ok, ok... I know that that sign does NOT mean "Leave your geezers in the forest".
But that's exactly the first thing I thought of.
