  1. A Guide for Making #CommunityGardens #Accessible for all Members

"This guide uses #UniversalDesign to improve community garden accessibility for all members. It focuses on providing #AccessiblePathways, tools, and planting options, creating opportunities for education, fresh produce, and therapeutic stress relief for people of all abilities.

This guide, created by Melissa Bravo, aims to enhance community garden accessibility for all members using Universal Design principles. It provides guidance on alterations community gardeners can make, focusing on #AccessibleWalkways (entrances, width, safety, materials), accessories (#ramps, #railings, #signage), water access, planters (raised beds, vertical gardening), #AccessibleTools, and #SensoryGardenPlants. By building accessible gardens, the guide emphasizes providing opportunities for agricultural education, access to locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, and therapeutic stress relief for people of all abilities through therapeutic horticulture.

The guide promotes the principles of Universal Design to create environments of #inclusion in community gardens, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from garden participation. It highlights specific design considerations like operable gate handles, appropriate path widths, and stable surfaces to enable access for people with limited mobility. Appendices offer detailed instructions on accessible features, tools, and sensory garden plants. Ultimately, the guide serves as a resource for gardeners seeking to create inclusive spaces that capture the diversity of their communities."

  2. No proper maker yard without a proper flag. One of our members took the initiative and ordered a Munich Maker Lab flag to make our space easier to find in the industrial area and somehow we ended up with two delivered. A happy accident, because now we also have a great banner inside the space, so no one can miss where they are.

    Welcome to the club, flags.

  3. Out now! Ampoule is the latest experimental treat from @daytonamess - just recovered by her from the deep underground tunnels of Argonpolis before it was totally eaten by the Rats. Across its twelve audacious styles, watch dots and bars dance before your eyes to form letters and symbols. 3D renders by Carla Manckoundia (thanks to her!).

In textual studies, a palimpsest (/ˈpælɪmpsɛst/) is a manuscript page, either from a scroll or a book, from which the text has been scraped or washed off in preparation for reuse[1] in the form of another document.[2] Parchment was made of lamb, calf, or goat skin and was expensive and not readily available, so, in the interest of economy, a page was often re-used by scraping off the previous writing. In colloquial usage, the term palimpsest is also used in architecture, archaeology and geomorphology to denote an object made or worked upon for one purpose and later reused for another; for example, a monumental brass on which the blank reverse side has been re-engraved.[3 — Wikipedia

  9. In early 2007 when I was in San Francisco to cover Macworld 2007, we rented a car and visited the Mothership in Cupertino.

After our tour of 1 Infinite Loop, I sought out the restroom and found it, marked with this sign that I photographed.

It stunned me and has sat restless in my mind these 20 years. How can this be the Apple HQ men's bathroom sign??

Edit: It's about the text centering.
