Because I lived smack dab in the middle of #ProvidenceRI and Boston, I had access to the best of both music scenes growing up there.
I could go one way, and see bands like Buffalo Tom and Morphine, or the other way, to catch bands like Six Finger Satellite, Velvet Crush and later, Deer Tick.
Here, little has changed about Deer Tick, and thank god for that.
They’ve always been a tight, killer band, and John McCauley’s voice, although maybe a little older and wiser, is still twangy, soulful, scorched earth.Great album opener in “If I Tried To Leave”, a retro, countrified blast of rock n roll.
Long live Deer Tick.

I can’t say enough how cool and life changing the bike lane on Kinsley ave from the mall to olneyville is. I hope more people start using it, pedestrian and cyclists alike. It’s gorgeous and I barely have to deal with cars for something that used to be treacherous.

"It’s lush and green, with nearly 270 trees packed into a 1,000-square-foot lot. Officially called the Pearl Street Garden, it contains a tiny forest in the middle of the urban jungle.
" 'Microforests' like this one are cropping up in places ranging from #ElizabethNJ to #CambridgeMA, to #Pakistan. South Providence has two, both along Pearl Street, created by #GroundworkRhodeIsland and the #PearlStreetGardenCollective. The goal is to combat climate change and bring cooling shade to urban areas that lack the leafy boulevards of wealthier neighborhoods.
" 'This isn’t habitat restoration on the scale that is needed in terms of the world,' said Jacq Hall, director of special projects at Groundwork Rhode Island, an environmental group that works to create healthier, more resilient urban communities in Rhode Island. (1985-1989), moved back to Durham and worked at #DukeU (Humanities Computing Facility, 1990-'91) writing neural network software, lived in #AthensGA (1991-2001), then finally again moved back to Durham.
