We can’t address this (https://kolektiva.social/@shrugdealer/111494784655434327) without significant investment in regional and intercity rail transit. We need medium- and high-speed *electric* rail between the most popular city pairs.
One of the advantages to rail transit is it supports stops with virtually no inconvenience. One train trip can service multiple city pairs (e.g. San Diego LA to San Jose to San Francisco) because a stop literally only takes a few minutes, and through passengers don’t need to take any action, like putting away their stuff or putting on seatbelts.
Not every route needs to be to be truly high speed, but we have to do better than today’s abysmal offerings.

Iranian media reporting that the first Russian transit cargo train has arrived in the port city of Bandar Abbas to transfer the containers to boats for transition to Saudi Arabia.
This is the first north-south train from the recent agreements between the 3 nationsIran is working on upgrading the aging and inefficient railroad system to be able to comply with demands for Russian goods to help Russia bypass western sanctions and embargoes.

Are you telling me #Philadelphia has a #crossrail tunnel for it's regional/commuter rail services, and uses it to have the trains just go to the "other" terminal before ending, and doesn't actually do through-running suburb-to-suburb lines?
