Not groundbreaking, but the work in this paper enabled the interesting polymer degradation studies my students & I are doing now. As you can see from the author list, many many people contributed over the years. I count 6 who have finished or are pursuing PhDs plus others involved in other areas of science. I heard peals of laughter spilling out of the lab Friday afternoon. The students were really enjoying getting soap bubbles to fill with mist from subliming dry ice, left over from the -78 bath for the Swern. I love that they are already having so much fun together. I cannot explain quite how comforting it is to hear the nitrogen boiling from the traps in the Schlenk line while I watch boiling solvent being stripped from a reaction. Just feels like all is right with the world for a moment when endothermic and exothermic processes occur just as they should.
