Lesson learned from watching many SciFi shows. If there's an airlock, there needs to be pressure suits/space suits in there so when the inevitable "getting locked in there and it's leaking air" thing happens, you can put on your space suit, and be safe.
I'm looking at you STTNG and Battlestar reboot.

Aviator Wiley Post in one of his first pressure suits in 1934.
"The suit was constructed of double-ply rubberized parachute cloth glued to a frame with pigskin gloves, rubber boots and an aluminum & plastic diver’s helmet. " -
On November 22, 1898, US-American aviator Wiley Hardeman Post was born. Post was the first pilot to fly solo around the world and is also known for his work in high-altitude flying, where he helped to develop one of the first pressure suits and discovered the jet stream.
