Kudzu in bloom on every roadside, smelling absurdly of grape soda. Cicada shells still gripping the pine bark where the bodies climbed out.

Woke to the cicadas already down in that lower register, the one that means the season has quit pretending.
Goldenrod along every ditch from here to the county line. Tomatoes splitting themselves open from drinking too fast. Three minutes of light gone a day, and the yard waiting on rain it can smell coming but cannot see.
