  2. Went to Corfe Castle.
    Corfe is old English for gap, here in the hills which define and obstruct access to an area called the Isle of Purbeck.
    Norman invaders replaced earlier Saxon and I dare say much earlier fortification with a motte and bailey castle, strong and on a hill.

    It figures in the #SciFi novel #Pavane by #KeithRoberts which is well worth reading.

    It was slighted by Parliamentary forces after holding out during the Civil War. That's slighted as in blown up.
