  1. As a New Yorker, I am proud that the city is pushing in a positive direction. As an anarchist, I do get bummed out that so much enthusiasm and energy is expended to get people into an office in the hope that they can effect change, I wish at least a *modicum* of that energy could go towards building and holding actual power and autonomy.

  2. Zohran Mamdani just quoted Eugene Debs right at the TOP of his acceptance speech. 👏🏽 ♥️ 🗽 🗳️ #politics #NYCPolitics #ZohranMamdani #NYCElections #NYCMayor #USPolitics

  3. As much as I wish it were, Mastodon is not yet the town square and I've been wanting more info on the NYC election so I checked Twitter and it turns out Twitter isn't good for that anymore? Like completely useless, actually.

Elons absolutely fucking with the trending topics because they're all negative as shit about Mamdani and there's no way that's not manual.

"Our team will be out all day covering the election, and we want to hear from you. Are there problems or long lines at your polling place? Electioneering? A voting sticker shortage? Drop a line at [email protected]."

  5. As @THECITY points out, despite a City Council spokesperson claiming that the electioneering rules don't cover referenda, the City Charter actually does cover this.

    NYC 2025 Election: Ballot Prop...

  12. Note that @brainwane wrote down her thoughts on #NYCElections ballot questions here: harihareswara.net/posts/2025/n.

I thought it was interesting that we came to different conclusions on the non-housing stuff; questions 1, 5, and 6 are a YES and two NOs respectively. I agree wholeheartedly on the "ballot panic" thing (getting derailed by these stupid ballot questions rather than just being able to vote for representatives, for example!)

However, odd year elections continue to be a disaster.

  13. #Mamdani Holds Huge Lead in Mayor’s Race, Times/Siena Poll Finds
#ZohranMamdani, the Democratic nominee in the #NewYorkCity mayoral race, is way ahead of his three rivals, but his lead would diminish considerably if the field shrank to a two-man race.

By Nicholas Fandos and Ruth Igielnik
    Sept. 9, 2025

"Mr. Mamdani has been among the most outspoken proponents of Palestinian rights and a longtime critic of Israel, describing its war efforts in Gaza as genocide. Mr. Cuomo is a staunch ally of Israel, and has volunteered to defend its leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, from war crimes accusations."

  19. The number of reasonable seeming people who've revealed themselves to be irredeemable bigots because one of our mayoral frontrunners is Muslim ... probably shouldn't surprise me.

  20. I am glad Brannan is straightforwardly calling Medicare Advantage a scam.

Overall I'm definitely seeing Levine being more careful and consultative, Brannan being more brash and fight-y in demeanor. My own temperament is more Levine-y but I also want to be careful of that tendency in myself!

  21. I appreciated Levine's careful, technocratic answer regarding the proposal wherein every agency pays out lawsuit settlements from its own budget.

When moderators asked what each candidate admired in the other's achievements, I did like Brannan's answer better - less jokey, more substantive.
