  1. @cdarwin unfortunately, no district that elects a single representative is never going to be fair for everyone.
It does not matter who draws the maps really, they are still dividing people by geography only.

To achieve #ProportionalRepresentation which is the true way to eradicate #Gerrymandering we need to elect multiple representative through #MultiMemberDistricts using #RankedChoiceVoting

See H.R. 7740 The Fair Representation Act.

  2. The Congressional Progressive Caucus just released its policy agenda for the coming year and Sec V calls to:

"Improve Representation: Create fairer, more efficient, and more representative elections by supporting ranked-choice voting and fix partisan gerrymandering by establishing multi-member districts for congressional elections and creating new requirements for congressional redistricting."

  3. @marcelias we really need #ProportionalRepresentation by moving to #MultiMemberDistricts so we can get away from these single-winner / winner-take-all #Gerrymandered district maps.

When multiple people are elected in each district, more of the people get someone to represent them and are less likely to sue.

  4. @TonyStark totally support independent redistricting commission efforts and am part of them in WA but the real solution to #Gerrymandering is to move away from #SingleWinner elections and toward #MultiMemberDistricts and #ProportionalRepresentation.

No district/map that elects a single person can be fair.

A district with multiple representatives means that voters can choose their representatives based upon how they Think, not where they live.

"In a multi-member district system with ranked ballots, change on Boston’s city council composition would be highly responsive but smooth, continuing to accurately reflect the whole population of the city as it evolves, alleviating prevalent anxieties in many different communities around disenfranchisement and displacement."
