1/ reduce travel in sparsely-populated areas
2/ #gerrymander
3/ system malfunctionIreland has no type 1. Type 2 (#gerrymandered) have been common. But there are a lot of micros created by the intersection of the 5-seat upper limits, and don't-cross county boundaries princile. E.g. in 1997, 5-seat Kildare should have become a 6-seater, but instead was split into two 3-seaters

#Texas #Republicans were sick & tired of #Democrat #AlGreen ("Black People Aren't Apes") winning his district ELEVEN TIMES, so they #Gerrymandered him into another district.

There’s a special election on December 2nd to elect a member of the House of Representatives from #TN7 which includes #MusicRow in #Nashville. But it has been #gerrymandered to include enough rural #Tennessee voters to have flipped the seat a few years ago.
But, pendulums swing both ways!

Over the weekend, #TX Gov #Abbott mocked IL Gov #Pritzker for threatening to redistrict his state to give #Democrats more seats if Abbott did the same, claiming "Illinois is one of the most #Gerrymandered states in the country" (only 3 of 17 seats are #Republican) suggesting there were not enough seats left to eliminate 5 Republican seats.But, like every other Republican, Dumbass Grego clearly hasn't considered IL SPLITTING some of the existing districts into SMALLER districts.
