Neil Kinnock (remember him) sets out in the Observer his view of the necessity of proportional representation & voting reform in the UK;
whatever you may think of Kinnock's time as Labour Party leader, the points he makes here form an important part of the growing argument for Andy Burnham's Govt. to make a clear move to reform the UK's voting system.

Was on a #makevotesmatter call a couple of days ago when someone I admire said he only switched to supporting #ProportionalRepresenttion when he realised you didn't have to use #multiMemberConstituencies. He disliked this because of less local representation. As an #STV fan, this triggered some soul searching.
I've come to the conclusion that the constituency link requirement is bogus. Effectively, it is telling voters before they even vote that their most important issue is local representation. Clearly, that is an important consideration but I bet given the choice most voters would rather be represented by a like minded person than someone who lives near by. For instance, I've frequently considered writing to my MP. Only done it once because 99% of the time he has clearly demonstrated that he opposes what I want, so he ain't going to advocate for me... -
#Petition #ProportionalRepresenttion
Yesterday 100,000 assorted fascists, bigots, homophobes, transphobes, racists & other assorted 'ists & 'phobes marched in London
EVERY ONE OF THEM IS GOING TO VOTE, IN THE NEXT GE !
Most likely for Farage
Do you want these people to decide who runs the country ?
If not here's one way to make sure you have a voice in Parliament
Use Proportional Representation at the next GE

An important notice for my Canadian friends about the upcoming election...
(CW: Contains lots of appropriate swearing.)

@proseandpassion Because the UK system has never been proportional. It doesn't matter how many votes you get in total, or there would be more LibDems and Green MPs, what matters is how they are distributed.
Corbyn attracted extra votes in seats where he didn't need them but lost them in seats where they were critical.
This election was very similar overall to the ones before, but the distribution was the difference.
Without #ProportionalRepresenttion of some sort, it's all very silly.

One of the best things about the tactical voting advice of sprintforpr.uk
is whether you want a #HungParliament or #ToriesInto3rd (it gives both) - it also gives 100 seats where it's absolutely cast-iron 100% safe to #VoteGreen ideologically. Important to prepare for 2029. #Vote4PR #UKPol #UKPolitics #FBPPR #ProportionalRepresenttion #Green -
From "GetPRDone" on the dark side ...
Labour’s manifesto commitment to fight 2029 under the rigged and outdated #FPTP voting system, potentially enabling a 35% Farage majority government, seems to be getting surprisingly little coverage in the mainstream media. -
Hey #canada! Did you know that 76% of Canadians support moving to #ProportionalRepresenttion? This will make our elections more fair, and more representative of our actual votes!
Click below to send a message to your MP asking them to attend a session for MPs to learn about #pr.

CW: UK Labour Proportional Representation
From 'Labour For New Democracy'
It’s hard to sum up our consultations with thousands of @UKLabour & @labourunionsuk members across the UK over 2 years
But here is Labour for a New Democracy’s submission to @labourpolicyforum on why Labour must back PR for general elections."

A while ago I made some suggestions to bring some sense into politics. I still think it would be a vast improvement. https://jaydax.blogspot.com/2019/01/how-to-fix-government-2.html?m=1 First step would be #ProportionalRepresenttion

CW: Starmer needs a PR nudge
There’s no point Labour winning unless it promises to dismantle our toxic electoral system.
Have to wonder if he is scared of Rachel Reeves.

The #strikes by #nurses and #AmbulanceWorkers in the #UK are as much to do with frustration at over a decade of chronic #underfunding of #PublicServices as they are to do with #pay. And if #Sunak and #Barclay can't see that then they are more out of touch with reality than I thought.
And this is against a background of the #rich getting #richer and the #poor getting #poorer.
We need a new #government and a new #voting system.

Ok, I wrote something about #PR / #ProportionalRepresenttion
(5-minute read; contains an analogy/joke about washing machines).
(Thank you Progressive Pulse for publishing it. [Doesn't link to Twitter].)

@Wild
Best #electoral system would involve multi-member districts and proportional representation

@ResistUK agree that we need #ProportionalRepresenttion #PR , how to achieve this change however with both #labourparty and #conservativeparty currently not supportive is the biggest challenge.
-
@ajroach42 strangely decentralisation works very much as #ProportionalRepresenttion

#Abolition of the #HouseOfLords is good, but will he go further and commit to #ProportionalRepresenttion ?
