  2. During WW2 the US Playing Card Company, working with the Office of Strategic Services & MI9 created a deck of cards to aid Allied prisoners of war escape from German POW camps. When the cards were soaked in water, they separated to reveal a portion of a map of Europe. An escapee would need to piece together a whole map from multiple cards. This escape aid helped at least 32 people escape from Colditz Castle & prompted some 316 escape attempts.

  3. Furse established safe houses across Marseilles, one of them in a brothel. Her group was eventually betrayed & she was imprisoned. While in prison, she smuggled money & secreted messages in condoms in her vagina. After her eventual release she returned to London, but as she was well known to the Gestapo her request to return to occupied France was denied. She had 5 children. She died at age 92 on Oct 14, 2002. (2/2)
