During WW2, the U.S. Playing Card Company created a deck of cards to help Allied prisoners of war escape from German camps. When this Ace of Spades is soaked in water, it separates to reveal a piece of a map inside. The decks helped at least 32 prisoners successfully escape the Colditz Castle POW camp.

The story of Colditz Castle was documented by PR Reid in his book, Colditz. The BBC made a dramatic TV series, Colditz, which closely followed Reid's account. The first episode of the TV series was released Oct 19, 1972. The series is available on YouTube:
