Here's the 20" #CorsiRosenthalBox I'm working on. Fans in rectangular housings basically don't exist in the UK, so I made a cardboard shim out of the box for this circular one.

This build was a proof of concept (hence the green masking tape rather than duct tape, and the plastic sheeting still on the #MERV13 filter boards). I was testing whether the shim and the boards would support the weight of the fan. Despite being a mock up it's surprisingly rigid!

Next stage involves building it properly (including sealing those gaps at the corners; the 20" fan is actually more like 21.5" across and the boards are 19.5"), then using my anemometer to measure the flow rate of the finished box, so I can work out what size room it can filter. I'm intending this one for a local community centre where a Queer Club meets, to make their meetings safer.

Some schools are really cleaning the air well. This school district has two HEPA air purifiers per classroom. They did a detailed engineering study of every classroom. Details & study, articles here:

Derk et al, 2023: CR boxes out-performed single-filter DIY air filtration units. 5cm-thick #MERV13 filters out-performed 2.5cm ones. Best #CRbox config. reduced #aerosol exposure to 22% that of HVAC units alone. Hoping to get some input from #HVAC #Engineers and other experts: in a school built in the 70s that originally had no walls and is now divided up into classrooms via a mixture of full height, 3/4 height, and half height walls and dividers...would getting walls & doors be helpful or harmful from a #CleanAir standpoint? HVAC has #MERV13 filters, & the building has a handful of #HEPA air purifiers, but very few windows.

We do have #MERV13 filters in the HVAC system, and when there are only a few people in the building (eg during a PTO building) the #CO2 levels are actually really good - in the 500-700 range! But when I sent the #Aranet in with my kids, CO2 in their classrooms built up throughout the day, maxing out around 1600ppm in one kid's class and over 2000 in the other.

We can stop #Covid easily.

We can't stop #cholera with vaccines. We stop cholera with water treatment plants, because cholera is in the water.

Also water filters and UV for long-distance hikers etc.

Side benefit: we also stop #flu and #RSV.
