    It wasn't wrong; I just never exported the updated part.

    Moving onward…

    I decided I didn't want to just have a hole for the fan controller cable to pass through, so I'm waiting for a panel mount jack to come in. Another potentially difficulty is that the fan extension cables I bought might be too short.

The big obstacle is that I have to be able to access the bolts to replace the filters. I’d prefer not to have to remove the handles when I do that.

    It’s going to be 48 hours of printing for all 8 panels and probably 2.5-3 kg of filament in the end.

  18. The basic concept is 2 filters with a 3D-printed center section. The fans blow “up” and “forward”. Ideally there are handles at the top and feet at the bottom.

    It’s all bolted together so that it can be moved easily and the filters can be replaced non-destructively.

  28. @croyle Our #CorsiRosenthal box lasts half a year for viruses, mold, pollen, dust, kitchen excesses, etc. but two weeks when outside AQI is 120 or higher. It turns a depressing shade of gray. Makes ya think.

    The price of this, with taxes and shipping included was so reasonable, that it was a bit of a no-brainer.

    This AirFanta 3 Pro was suggested to us as a very reasonably priced ready-made alternative. It will purify the air in up to 3100 square feet, so has an impressive performance.

    After watching the videos and reading the technical reviews, we decided to order one. It's exactly the same principle as the CR box, but much quieter, using four computer fans and with all the hassle taken out of making it. There's no need for duct tape and cardboard etc etc. and changing the filters is simple with no need to tear duct tape off etc. And it's much, much quieter than would be a box fan. It's also possible to infinitely adjust the speed of the fans, making it ideal for bedroom or other rooms where at times a quieter fan is wanted.

    We liked it so well, that we ordered another one, and friends of ours ordered one for themselves.

    We also invested in an air quality monitor, which was rather more expensive, but that meant that we were actually able to see the results of using these in our home environment. The air quality monitor is made in Quebec and was also recommended by the same user here.

    Are there any equivalent affordable HVAC filters in Europe with a MERV rating of 8 or 13? Or do I simply have to swallow the additional cost because HVAC filters aren't as ubiquitous in Europe as they are in North America?

  47. I've posted several times about how you can scale up a Corsi-Rosenthal box to the size of your house. It's not complicated. Instead of building a box, you put the furnace filters over a window screen, and then put a fan in the window farthest from the first one, blowing out, with the space around the fan sealed with cardboard or whatever you have on hand. That's it. If you want, you can have filters and/or fans in several windows.

    However, if your windows are like mine, getting the filters in place and then taping them up is a rather awkward process. This morning, I realized I could take the screen out, tape the filters directly to it, and put it back in. This is not only far easier, it's also more effective, because I can do a better job taping.

    Edit: I don't remember what the filters cost me, but the only other materials I used were masking tape and scrap cardboard. If you don't already have a box fan, they're not expensive.

  51. I've posted several times about how you can scale up a Corsi-Rosenthal box to the size of your house. It's not complicated. Instead of building a box, you put the furnace filters over a window screen, and then put a fan in the window farthest from the first one, blowing out, with the space around the fan sealed with cardboard or whatever you have on hand. That's it. If you want, you can have filters and/or fans in several windows.

    However, if your windows are like mine, getting the filters in place and then taping them up is a rather awkward process. This morning, I realized I could take the screen out, tape the filters directly to it, and put it back in. This is not only far easier, it's also more effective, because I can do a better job taping.

    Edit: I don't remember what the filters cost me, but the only other materials I used were masking tape and scrap cardboard. If you don't already have a box fan, they're not expensive.

  52. Confession: I am a #Govee guy. Not so much the LED light strips (that's my son's domain).

    Me, I am a temperature sensor guy. I have them in my fridge and freezer to mitigate food spoilage, one in a watertight container in my pool skimmer, one in a far dark corner of my basement to turn the dehumidifier on and off. One in garage to make sure it isn't too cold in the winter, one in my bathroom to turn a small space heater on and off in the winter. One in my gazebo so I know the outdoor temperature. I have two in my mum's 1960s apartment to make sure she's staying cool in the evermore frequent heat waves (set those up a few weeks ago after she called to say she wasn't feeling so good and I rushed over to take her to emergency where she was treated for heat stroke and severe dehydration. Govee will make sure that I have advance warnings now - plus we bought an AC for her apartment).

    Yesterday I added one more sensor, their PM2.5 air quality sensor. It gets good reviews for accuracy (it uses the Cubic PM2008MS as its PM sensor) and is significantly cheaper than competitive products, at under $50 Canadian. This sensor is helpful because of the ever increasing number of wildfires and resultant smoke. While Environment Canada issues smoke warnings, smoke and associated air quality can be extremely local (think blobs of smoke that fall from upon high and roll through your neighbourhood). Having this sensor will warn me when AIQ is poor (it samples every 2 seconds and can trigger threshold alerts via the Govee app), and sadly, during smoke events, will also let me know when locally the AIQ is acceptable, giving confidence about when it is prudent to go indoors, and when it is okay to enjoy being outside.

    Next up, I guess I'll need another one for indoors. Then the smart switches can turn on the Corsi Rosenthal air filters.

    They said they've been trying to find air purifiers at local stores, but found every one was sold out.

    I said they could make their own, for less than $100 US dollars.
