"Since ISIS is pretty much the worst thing in the world now ..."
This claim has not aged well. It's pretty obvious that Orange Stalinism is the worst thing in the world right now. But for reasons explained on the linked page, I think its days are numbered, so my claim too has a shelf life. As dies any such claim by its very nature.

PS "Standing down requires breaking the confusion/fear/anger/aggression cycle."

This is what I am arguing for.

"Media coverage of politics is awful; deliberately making everything worse in pursuit of advertising dollars."

All the more so on ad-funded digital platforms.

https://meaningness.com/pattern
I love the idea that meaning is nebulous but real and the metaphor of it as cloud shape recognition.
Things like logic , common sense, math seem to be like pattern spaces that we navigate or gaze upon and recognize..
It also seems like nature builds complexity on top of previous complexity to create abstractions from abstractions .. feels like that's what we hoomans are doing right now with machine learning.. all part of a continuum.

So I get this idea in my head that Mastodon is going to be so much better than Twitter. So I check it out. So far, not seeing it. Prove me wrong. Please! #Introduction

Could the modes described in #Meaningness (systematic, countercultural, subcultural, atomized, fluid) be applied to the network topologies of network software?
1) Centralized networks = systematic mode
2) Federated networks = countercultural mode
3) Private networks (eg #BBS, mailing lists, web forums) = subcultural mode
4) Distributed networks = atomized mode
5) Hybrid federated/ distributed networks = fluid modeDo any hybrid networks exist yet? Maybe #Zot with #NomadicIdentity?

@imacrea I have to agree with @Wolf480pl on this. I've seen just as much pathalogical ego-stroking among anti-capitalist radicals (like myself) as among (pro-)capitalists. See my recent posts on #Meaningness and puritanism. Majority voting is not the be all and end all of democracy either (when abused it can be its opposite - 3 wolves and sheep voting on what's for dinner ). But FWIW users can vote on protocols, to some extent, by choosing apps that use the protocol(s) they want to support.

"The important thing about god is not whether or how he exists but what your attitude is towards him (obedient, fearful, awestruck, angry, etc). It appears to me that all these noisy atheiests are defining themelves by an attiude towards god and are just as captured by the concept as any believer."

@Wolf480pl
I think that's how it feels for everyone. The author of #Meaningness argues that's because of the collapse of both the countercultural and subcultural modes and he makes a convincing case. Now we've all been pitched into the purgatory of the atomized mode (#SocialMedia being its digital representation). He has some ideas in the book for how to escape. Hint: as with so many things, the way out is through emptiness.
