I'm sure you can chalk some of it up to inflation, but much of it can probably be chalked up to the fact that someone thought it would be a good idea to host a large conference near Times Square four days after New Year's Eve. The hotel prices will certainly be higher than they were in Austin.
I don't know how anyone who isn't funded or near New York or independently (or dependently) wealthy could afford to attend this conference.
