India’s LPG crunch today isn’t just about local politics, it’s tied to the bigger picture. The Iran Israel USA conflict has rattled shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s key energy corridor. Since most of our LPG comes that way, shortages and price hikes were bound to follow.

I’m not saying PM Modi can stop a war, but the government does have tools: subsidies, reserves, and diversification. And honestly we should remember some countries are facing full blown energy crises. A lot of what we feel at home actually starts far beyond our borders.

Yes, back in 2010 India did face real LPG hardship under weak governance, but that’s not the story now. The real question is what comes next. Are we serious about diversifying production, expanding capacity, and building reserves? Under normal conditions the IEA standard is 90 days of cover, ours sits at 74. That gap matters.

I still believe we won’t repeat 2010, but I’m frustrated that progress is slow. Why do restrictions keep coming at all? We aren’t investing enough in readiness.

And please, no panic buying. I’ve seen people rushing for cylinders and it’s creating artificial shortages. Keep buying as you always did. The West Asian conflict doesn’t mean India will run out, unless hoarding makes it happen. Let’s not create our own crisis.
