  1. I finally declared my Lempicka study finished.

    Y'all. I am so happy!

This took me over a year - not just the hours of work but bc I'd get scared I'd ruin it so I'd leave it untouched for months.

  6. My art history theme for the merry month of May is a color: Pink! It was my grandmother’s favorite color. For today, I offer you Portrait of Romana de la Salle, 1928, by Tamara de Lempicka (1898-1980), oil on canvas, 45 ⅞ by 28 ¾ in. (116.5 by 73 cm.), photo: Sotheby’s New York, 14 November 2022. #arthistory #artdeco #lempicka #womenartists #womanartist

Excerpt from the catalogue note: “The slight tilt of Romana’s head and serpentine turn of her torso evoke the figuration of Botticelli and Raphael… while dramatic shadows employed throughout the present work allude to Lempicka's admiration of Mannerist painters. Romana’s body, anchoring the entire bottom of the picture plane and culminating with her delicate facial features at the top of the canvas, forms a triangular symmetry that mirrors the compositions of Neoclassical titans like David and Ingres… Accentuated by the ethereal draping of her pink dress, her voluminous forms defy containment by the canvas’ edges. As such, Lempicka confers the monumental power of a classical sculpture upon her wholly modern subject.”

#Lempicka thought #Picasso's #Cubism was ugly, refusing to follow the trend of non-representational #AbstractArt and absurdism. Instead, she painted beauty and sensuality and passion as her #ArtDeco style blossomed in the 1920s Paris art scene.

  16. There's an exhibition of the works of Tamara de #Lempicka at the #DeYoung that I'd like to visit but they are charging seniors $32/person just to look at the exhibit.

Then there's the $20 general admission fee to the museum (except on Saturdays which is free) plus about $20 for parking plus about $35 for gas to drive 140 miles into/out of The City plus $17.75 for tolls (because I drive over the SR & GG bridges to get into The City) for a total cost, just for me of about $125 just to drive into The City to see it. Up that to about $180 for 2. And that doesn't include lunch at the museum (which is awful & overpriced) or elsewhere outside of the park. 🤦‍♂️

    Hmmm??? 🤔

Guess I'll just view her work for free on the Net. 🤷‍♂️

I have a large framed poster of her painting entitled "Adam & Eve" hanging above the open stairway in my house. Just love looking at every time that I walk up & down the stairs for free as well.

I'd buy more examples of her work if I had more wall space but unfortunately I don't.
