  1. The #Metro to #Washington project, supported by a new £1.85bn funding deal secured by North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, will extend the #Tyne and Wear Metro by 13km, linking Pelaw and South Hylton via Washington. The extension includes new stations at Follingsby, Washington North, and Washington South, using former #railway lines like part of the #Leamside Line. Public engagement events will be held from mid-June, offering residents a chance to meet #Nexus project teams, ask questions, and provide feedback. The first #trains are expected by 2033, marking the biggest Metro expansion in over 30 years. The consultation includes nine drop-in sessions across the region, with dates running from 17 June to 1 July.
