That special case, however, was caused by the Bevel Modifier, that gets added by the importer plugin to soften the otherwise hard edges. #LDraw geometry is composed of many small primitives ("primitive" as in "just a circular arc edge"). Unfortunately that often generates meshes with intersecting or overlapping faces, especially with more complicated parts. Simple shaders have no problems with these, but they cause hickups in #Blender's #Cycles renderer.
