🤣 I think I still have a Flying Fickle Finger of Fate somewhere.

  4. Gotta credit @HunterFelt for this find: In a 'you have got to be kidding me' moment, he's found that #TurnOn, the notorious #LaughIn knockoff from ABC in 1969 that only had one episode and was literally cancelled *as that episode aired* is on YouTube. I expect it will be nothing but dated and horrible and stupid...but I must watch. This was apparently uploaded two weeks ago? The show's Wikipedia page also has it embedded so hopefully it'll stick around. youtube.com/watch?v=yxs5ki5e8n

  5. #LaughIn is a late 60s cultural touchstone, but I've never actually seen a full episode of it. I knew just enough about it through pop culture osmosis to recognize it, and all the basic highlights: "sock it to me", Nixon having a clueless cameo, and Goldie Hawn and other "before they were big" names showing up.

I started with the 1967 one-off "special" that acted as a pilot, and then the first episode of the full first season that came the following year.

I can now better describe it like this: shove Mad Magazine, Benny Hill, and The Muppet Show into a blender.

It's surprisingly scatterbrained moving from gag to short skit to gag with no through line.

So far in Season 1 at least, it's a mixed bag: a lot of good, a lot of bad, but it moves fast before you can get too bored with any one thing.

I'm enjoying this, but it's so "counterculture" and bizarre at times, I'm rather surprised this clicked with mainstream network TV audiences.

    I'll stick with it.
