For a very long time I wanted to create a fantasy world that is "like #DarkSun (or more recently #Kenshi), but in green".
But somehow, there is some kind of somber dignity in desert settings that forest settings just don't have.
Maybe it's related to being unable to see the forest for all the trees. You don't get the sense of timeless desolation when there's probably hundreds of animals hidden from view just a few dozen paces away.

My experience with developing #Kaendor has been repeated cycles of having new ideas how to spice up the overall concept, taking things apart, building several new protoypes, and eventually after half a year or so becoming convinced that the original design was actually pretty close to what I want to accomplish in the first place.
It's annoying at times, but I've learned to find comfort in that it seems to confirm that I already have a winning formula and on the right path.

The cosmology I'm putting together is made up of the Material Plane, the Plane of Shadows, the Plane of Faerie, and the Far Realm. All of which are not from Planescape.
It's a fairly small setup as D&D style cosmologies go, with no inner and no outer planes, but I think that only gives those three planes more room to really show their presence in a campaign. And the way they are described in the book has been hugely evocative and inspiring to me even 20 years ago.

New Site Post: Fun with Mapbashing and perhaps a map for the new Kaendor
https://spriggans-den.com/2023/11/26/fun-with-mapbashing-and-perhaps-a-map-for-the-new-kaendor/In which I gush about a new world map for #Kaendor based on a mirrored map of Earth.

This week I was working a lot on creating the surface world for my new #Kaendor map, which is greatly inspired by the late 80s, Larry Elmore AD&D aesthetics.
And since yesterday evening I was feeling that the result is serviceable but uninspired.
Now I just remembered that a Cthulhu and Bloodborne themed otherworld was supposed to be the other half of the whole concept, which immediately makes the world feel super cool again! 🤩
Design can easily start to run away from you.

Current state of my new #Kaendor map project with hexes on paper.
A4 sheet with 15-mile hexes.
This shows basically the main settled area of of the setting and the nearby borderlands. (Marked by the black lines.)
I know what to figure out how to place some 20 minor domains and more special environment areas, but then it's going to be transferred to an A2, 6-mile sheet for all the real detail work.
This will make a good player map. The full GM map will be four times the size.

New Site Post: Kaendor #24
https://spriggans-den.com/2023/11/18/kaendor-24/I'm often getting great responses when posting about stuff I'm working on for my #Kaendor setting.
I've put together a summary overview of what it really is that I'm working on and the campaign I'm planning to start next year. -
Since last night, all the original ideas and inspirations that got me started with the worldbuilding that eventually developed into #Kaendor is suddenly coming back to me.
I was remembering what things had been inspiring me, but not what they had inspired in my mind for possibly a couple of years now.
And now it's all coming back and it's as awesome as I remember I thought it was.
