While getting soaked by the unscheduled rain on my fake commute this morning I at least spotted “my” barn owls. Let me tell you, they seemed even less impressed than I was.

Today’s morning walk meant I got to spot a roosting barn owl. Wouldn’t have seen that if I were sat in a metal box on wheels - another reason to much prefer an active #FakeCommute to an actual commute in the car.

My fake commute was a lot nicer with far fewer cars - shame that was only achievable by being up an hour and a bit earlier than normal… thanks, unplanned and unwanted wakefulness!
It didn’t show up in the photo, but I could see Orion low in the sky for the first time this winter.

Nice crisply cold fake commute this morning. Not too many automobiles, a beautiful flyover of seven geese, a close bare-eyed view of a handsome carrion crow… half an hour and I head off to donate platelets, always a worthwhile way to use up half a day of annual leave.

An hour and a quarter’s #FakeCommute got me through about an hour of the Podcast I was listening to as I kept having to pause and rewind because even with the volume at maximum I couldn’t hear it over the cars and lorries. FFS, makes me want to #BanCars before I go totally deaf. It would be so much #NicerWithoutCars.

While “fortunately” there were pedestrian refuges a bit to each side so I could cross the busy road twice to get past safely it was very slow due to the volume of motor traffic

He has 30 years experience as a technology journalist and a life-long love of cars! I would trust independent scientists more. Agreed the only data I can find is old. If you have later genuine research I would be interested in seeing it. In the meantime #JustWalk or cycle or take public transport!

What a sad little article. Replacing the ICE car fleet with EVs is going to be an environmental disaster. EVs do not eliminate all emissions. @fiend_unpleasant Sorry. I believe feet and legs are a far more sophisticated transport system than bicycles. They can last for a hundred years of hard use and cause no pollution. True you can’t carry as much as wheeled vehicles but just make a few more trips. Ok? #JustWalk
