@[email protected] I was reminded of the need for #iTunesMatch after I let my #AppleOne subscription lapse in protest at price increases. Now none of my devices sync over-the-air so I have to do it manually or pay a €25 fee for the year. 😭

You know how you can rip all of the music you have on CDs, subscribe to iTunes Match, and it will download higher quality versions of the songs and store them in the cloud?

1. Is that still true?
2. Let’s say I did that years ago. How come, as an iTunes Match subscriber, I don’t see that music in my library?

As an #AppleMusic subscriber I’m never quite sure if I can safely let my #iTunesMatch sub fall by the wayside - and nothing I’ve read on the matter makes me feel any more confident about it.

Anyone here who has done just that and is still able to access all the music they’ve personally uploaded (that isn’t available on Apple Music)?

It’s £22 I’d rather not spend if it’s unnecessary, but it’s the fear of the unknown and the loss of my obscure stuff that I don’t want to risk losing access to.

For several years after subscribing to #AppleMusic, I still had a yearly subscription to #iTunesMatch because the support rep I spoke to at the time told me it was necessary in order to continue to have cloud sync access to my uploaded/matched songs. I only found out recently that its functionality is entirely contained in Apple Music now, but I had to convince a second rep of that before I canceled.

@timbray @rei #Apple doesn’t advertise it at *all* anymore but I pay $25/year for their #iTunesMatch service to either match my rips with their own content or transcode and store it in #iCloud as 256Kbps AAC. They emphasize it’s not a backup service (see: transcoding) but it’s really nice to have my unique music as accessible as regular #AppleMusic and #iTunes are. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204146
