  1. New Report Helps #Journalists Dig Deeper Into Police #Surveillance Tech

A new report released today offers journalists tips on cutting through the sales hype about police surveillance tech & report accurately on costs, benefits, #privacy , & #accountability as these invasive & often ineffective tools come to communities across the nation.

The “Selling Safety” report is a joint project of the EFF, the Center for Just #Journalism (CJJ), and #IPVM.

  9. #CERN: Here's a #winwin proposal: #physicists keep smashing particles, and downtime compute power feeds a distributed #AI #LLM network freely accessible to any/everyone (kinda like #Zenodo is for research/data storage now).

Even better...a custom #model that lets me run natural #language queries on your data so I can prove the #infoton exists.

Seems a logical #evolution to me, the nascent backbone of which exists (see #IPVM, and distributed comp isn't new: #SETI)

You can also follow the channel directly @[email protected] - we’ll be putting demos and screencasts and things there too

  22. Is there an #opensource backed standard for annotating others’ webpages?

I’m thinking specifically being able to tag others’ sites with #IndieWeb h-cards (eg. Adding machine readable event tags to pages like this: ewanbleach.com/events)

or something more fancy, like letting me attach (#ipvm runnable?) WASM to that page that will extract an iCal file.

I want to make microformats and standard metadata more available without everyone having to get on board.

  27. Heading to Istanbul for #Devconnect today. YVR -> YUL -> IST

I’ve got a number of presentations I’m giving, mostly about @fission’s work with IPFS and our new reference implementation of #IPVM: Wasm-focused decentralized compute fission.codes/ipvm

    Two events I’m helping organize:

    On Thursday, IPFS Connect istanbul2023.ipfsconnect.org

    And Friday is WalletUncon walletuncon.org

  36. Fission is building IPVM or the InterPlanetary Virtual Machine. IPVM aims to be the "HTTP of compute" - open, interoperable, and everywhere, from client browsers to servers.

Are you a node runner, serverless function developer, or front-end developer? We are running a closed beta test of Homestar, the first implementation of IPVM, and we'd love for you to join us.

  54. The other things that start to make this really fun (which aren’t quite ready yet):

#IPFS is a building block for tech like #IPVM, which might allow me to host *dynamic* data from anyone who cares enough to help with the hosting (no pre-arrangement required). This one’s super exciting and further out; but I don’t think it’d be needed for what you’re looking for. /3
