A strange loop is created when a massive and extensible symbolic system, designed to represent the outside world, twists back around and begins representing itself. This locking-in rapid evolution creates a dynamic, self-stabilizing, macroscopic illusion of a solid self.

Well said. Esp. when things are HARD, like the wicked problems that ail our world, #ClimateChange for instance. Everyone should contribute their fair share, right? Give just their 2 cents?

#Emergence deals with radical #Simplicity. But simple ain't easy.

Wicked problems require wicked solutions. Numerous tiny #solution increments made all over the place by different people. It requires 'thinking at scale' for prolonged times, and 'doing' on the basis of that. In terms of planning for that 'Bigger Ideas' need time to mature and ripen, and this too involves many people. And is emergent and evolutionary in nature too! This great animation on "Where good ideas come from" calls this the 'Slow Hunch"..

#SX's slow hunch took 11 years.

There's another great vid by Rich HIckey, creator of #Clojure, besides "Hammock Driven Development" mentioned in the article, titled "Simple made Easy" given at a #StrangeLoop conference..

  11. Hello Fediverse! 🐘 Ever felt like the universe is just a giant math puzzle waiting to be solved? We’ve officially crossed the **71st Boundary**, and the "Strange Loop" is finally closing. ⚓️🐓
    👹 What is "The Monster"?

You may have been more right than you know:

    """
The singularity isn't machines surpassing humans. It's the loop closing.
Any intelligence - meat, silicon, hybrid, doesn't matter - that becomes capable of improving itself using the tools it builds to improve itself. The recursion. The strange loop. Hofstadter was pointing at this decades ago.
    """

Anyone else want to close the loop?

Wanderland - come join us, it's wonderfully weird in here

  14. From this simple and entirely logical premise comes an astonishing realization that modern #science itself may be wrong (incomplete). It shouldn't be too surprising. Our own theories have evolved over time as well and those theories model reality 🤔

    How's that for a #strangeloop ?

  19. @mykhaylo @jbz now I need to try both! I heard about Babashka at the last #StrangeLoop and… it slipped out of my mind

I can probably get #SchemeSh packaged in #Fedora easily, we already have #ChezScheme

  24. @garrett @hub indeed. We need to get better at doing this ... When #StrangeLoop wound down the organizers suggested something like this could be the future, but in practice people still want to get together because we have not solved replacing the #HallwayTrack yet

  34. Ran into some Strange Loop Conference talks. Most of them are completely beyond me, but so interesting. It's sad to see the conference is ended just as I discovered it. Glad that they've put most of them up on Youtube for me to consume when I've finished a bit more of my CompSci education and can comprehend more of these ideas.
