  1. I went to the gym for upper body day. My bad shoulder side is so weak compared to the other side, but I was able to move it in ways that I couldn't a few weeks ago. Maybe I'll be working on pull-ups by the end of the year. Hope so! I want that strength and mobility back. #AdhesiveCapsulitis #FrozenShoulder #InvisibleDisability

  2. My frozen shoulder limits my wardrobe choices. Last night, I went shopping for sundresses I can get in and out of without help. I wore my respirator into the busy store and took an armload of cotton dresses into the change room. I pulled one dress on, and the anti theft tag got caught on my respirator strap. I was physically unable to disentangle it because of my gimpy shoulder.

I pulled the dress back off and it was still stuck. I tried as best as I could to disentangle it with my one good arm, and finally it broke one of the straps on my mask. But at least I had the dress off.

I adjusted the remaining strap as best as I could to hold the mask snug to my face. It wasn't a perfect seal, but it was better than no mask at all.

Then I had to get back into my own clothes. By this point, I was so fatigued from my battle with the anti theft tag that I had a hard time zipping up my front-closing dress. My hand was trembling so much it was difficult to grip the zipper tog. It took me a few tries to get my dress back on properly.

Oy. Getting old is some serious bullshit. But at least I found a couple of dresses I actually like and that I can get in and out of without help.

  3. This is what it's like to see through my eyes. I've had scintillating scotoma for decades. It's always there. Sometimes it takes over so much of my vision that I'm essentially blind. Usually, it's something I can work around. I rarely have migraine headaches, but when I do, the blind spots are much worse.

  4. I fell off a plyometric box today while doing pistol squat progressions. It hurt my bad shoulder and my pride. Hurt my shoulder yesterday, too, while leaning forward to reach for something. This frozen shoulder bullshit can go away now, please. At least with the new haircut, putting my CPAP mask on at night is no longer a struggle. It was really hard to pull it on over long hair.

Another thing I've noted: when my shoulder is acting up, I get pain in my hip, knee, and big toe on the same side. I suspect it's because it's throwing off my walking gait.

  5. I'll be getting a saline injection and cortisone to treat my frozen shoulder. I'm currently in the freezing stage and it sucks. Lots of pain and inflammation in my shoulder/arm making sleep even more difficult. The pain is exhausting. It's very hard to put my hair in a ponytail or put on a shirt or sports bra. I hope the treatment helps. I'll be getting it done a few days before I go do my residency in Banff.

I went to the gym this morning. It sucked, but I felt better at the end than I did when I first got there. Recovered a bit of mobility, too. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/ #FrozenShoulder #InvisibleDisability #ChronicPain

  6. That physiotherapy I had yesterday helped. Earlier this week, I couldn't go into child's pose, and today I could. I also made my bed without it hurting, and I was able to do an intense workout with lots of rowing and pressing motions.

I'm supposed to keep stretching my shoulder several times a day, taking it to the pain point and keeping it there (but not pushing further). It sucks a lot, but apparently it will help me retain more mobility than if I don't do this.

  7. Ah, I see. I've reached the point of frozen shoulder where I can't put on deodorant. Guess I'll just stink for a year and a half. #FrozenShoulder #InvisibleDisability

  8. Grateful one of my coaches is conversant with frozen shoulder and is helping me find exercises which work for me and will help preserve as much mobility as possible. It really helps that my shoulder baseline is far more mobile than average. It also helps that I am already fit and strong. Really hoping I'll be able to make a full recovery when this condition has finished its course.

I got a phone call from my sports doctor while I was at the gym. He doesn't do cortisone injections, but is passing on the information for a doctor who does to my family doctor. I sure hope the referral goes quickly, because I hurt myself badly in my sleep again by stretching. I swear, it's like being poleaxed. It's agonizing for a couple of minutes, and then I can't get back to sleep for a while out of terror that I'll hurt myself again in my sleep. Do not recommend. #FrozenShoulder #InvisibleDisability #ChronicPain #mobility

  9. I went for a walk while the sun was very bright and I ended up with blind spots. But the blind spots didn’t go away. They grew and grew until I realized I could only see half a person walking toward me on the path. Then the blind spots turned into a high intensity halogen strobe light show of a brightness that I haven’t experienced in about twenty years. It’s mostly gone now, thank goodness. Around 2000, I was afflicted with this across about 75% of my vision 24/7. It is utterly debilitating. Sure glad this one acted more like a migraine warning than my usual chronic scintillating scotoma. #migraine #neurological #ScintillatingScotoma #vision #InvisibleDisability reviewofoptometry.com/article/
