On airport assistance generally. I get reminded that I must look young and fit. This time it was a flight attendant assuming I was travelling with someone older sat on the other side of the aisle. After I said I was travelling alone she realised I was waiting for assistance. It's not the first time this has happened. Also, last time in Manchester I was asked several times if i could walk the rest of the way.

My last three days have sucked. Big pain days due to a dislocated rib, and I can't get to physio for another two weeks. I think I coaxed the rib back into place, but the muscles on my shoulder and neck are freaking out now. Why do bodies do this shit? #InvisibleDisability #ChronicPain

It seems one of my ribs has popped out of joint today. Oh joy. Don't mind me. I'm just rolling my bones up and down sharp corners, kinda like a mare in oestrus grinds up against fence posts. #InvisibleDisability

#MS is an #invisibledisability. This means it's there, and it's real, but because it isn't clearly visible, people don't believe it's really there, or that we're 'putting it on'!
Believe me, it's REAL. And INVISIBLE too. 😢

If your Autistic child, friend, partner, family member, etc seems "dramatic" due to their routine being disrupted, they're not. It is truly world breaking for them when it happens. It feels awful. And it isn't their fault. Have patience, and take it a step at a time.

#BrainFog is excellent practice in being present and non-attachment.
I have to watch thoughts, no, fragments of thoughts come and go, knowing fully well that when I attempt to catch them, they shatter ever more from the touch of my mind.
So I let them go. Let them be. I ask not what more they can become.
I watch them as I would spider’s silk float by in the wind. I admire their beauty. I grieve the loss. I savour the memory, or what memory remains.

CW: Intense description of MS/CFS anxiety attack symptoms
Lost function past two days. No idea if flare-up of #MEcfs or onset of #longCOVID. Had to evacuate chair and return to bed for first time in months.
Only discovered research on mitochondrial dysfunction recently. Secretly suspected as much for a while.
Had full body #anxiety attacks again. Realised for first time it feels just like asphyxiating… but for ATP, instead of O2.
It's not just in our heads.

A dear friend checked in on me today. She was concerned by my quiet. She sent a photo of a brilliant dahlia. I shared of my sadness at difficulties recent and very likely future. In response, she sent me (the name of) a book: A Still Life, by Josie George. I’m reading it now with very late lunch. Such a simple gift of understanding, care and solidarity. ❤️

When my husband & I first started watching Miraculous Ladybug, we were sure it was just going to be utterly ridiculous and not worth continuing. Well, we continued & the show gets DEEP. We got soooo hooked we've rewatched it three times now, and there's plenty of seasons left to be made still. It's also very inclusive, especially season 6. 🌈

I went to the gym for upper body day. My bad shoulder side is so weak compared to the other side, but I was able to move it in ways that I couldn't a few weeks ago. Maybe I'll be working on pull-ups by the end of the year. Hope so! I want that strength and mobility back. #AdhesiveCapsulitis #FrozenShoulder #InvisibleDisability

It's Disability Pride Month, but honestly—I'm angry.
I use the elevator due to Long Covid, and I still get comments like "Just one floor? Take the stairs." Mostly from older, white, male coworkers outside my team. My direct colleagues get it. Others? Not so much.
Invisible disabilities are real. I'm tired of justifying my needs.
If you've faced this or have tips on handling it, please share.

My frozen shoulder limits my wardrobe choices. Last night, I went shopping for sundresses I can get in and out of without help. I wore my respirator into the busy store and took an armload of cotton dresses into the change room. I pulled one dress on, and the anti theft tag got caught on my respirator strap. I was physically unable to disentangle it because of my gimpy shoulder.
I pulled the dress back off and it was still stuck. I tried as best as I could to disentangle it with my one good arm, and finally it broke one of the straps on my mask. But at least I had the dress off.
I adjusted the remaining strap as best as I could to hold the mask snug to my face. It wasn't a perfect seal, but it was better than no mask at all.
Then I had to get back into my own clothes. By this point, I was so fatigued from my battle with the anti theft tag that I had a hard time zipping up my front-closing dress. My hand was trembling so much it was difficult to grip the zipper tog. It took me a few tries to get my dress back on properly.
Oy. Getting old is some serious bullshit. But at least I found a couple of dresses I actually like and that I can get in and out of without help.

It takes a lot of planning but I'm excited to go and make it work 💃🏼
If you meet me there:
😷 mask up if you can
🪫 ask me about my energy levels (always good to be reminded by friends) and
🤐 expect me to step out of conversations when it gets too much. Not a sign of disinterest -
It will also be my first full blown conference attendance since developing #LongCovid so I will have to pace and manage my energy like the strictest school teacher
I will #WearAMask (because #CovidIsNotOver) and compression socks, bring my handheld HEPA filter as well as a foldable chair to sit down in coffee breaks as some of my mitigation measures. Plus taking regular breaks

7.7: Ariel & Christina Discuss Living with a Disability as a Solarpunk
Today Christina talks to Ariel about what it's been like to live as a solarpunk with a visible - and then invisible - disability. Science fiction has spent decades dreaming of how future tech will make disabled people able to function as if they were fully abled. Now solarpunk has arrived on the scene to ask why should disabled bodies have to always be the ones to adapt? It can be uncomfortable, intrusive - not to mention expensive. Solarpunk wonders why can't cities, society, workplaces, and the like be the ones to use the tech to make themselves more accessible to and inclusive of disabled people?
Tune in as Ariel and Christina discuss the portrayal of disability in science fiction and solarpunk and how having to suddenly live with a disability opens your eyes to many of the ways cities fail people with disabilities.

This is what it's like to see through my eyes. I've had scintillating scotoma for decades. It's always there. Sometimes it takes over so much of my vision that I'm essentially blind. Usually, it's something I can work around. I rarely have migraine headaches, but when I do, the blind spots are much worse.

I fell off a plyometric box today while doing pistol squat progressions. It hurt my bad shoulder and my pride. Hurt my shoulder yesterday, too, while leaning forward to reach for something. This frozen shoulder bullshit can go away now, please. At least with the new haircut, putting my CPAP mask on at night is no longer a struggle. It was really hard to pull it on over long hair.
Another thing I've noted: when my shoulder is acting up, I get pain in my hip, knee, and big toe on the same side. I suspect it's because it's throwing off my walking gait.

Today I went for my first run in well over a year. I hope I will be able to keep it up. I used to do trail, mountain, and obstacle course races, but my health has made it very hard to pick that back up again. I have problematic feet. They are hypermobile with extremely flexible Achilles tendons. That means there is absolutely no bounce to my running, and every stride is strictly muscular. Tie that in with recurring Achilles tendonopathy, and it makes running almost impossible. But I'm gonna try to get my foot strength/endurance back. #running #hypermobility #AchillesTendonopathy #InvisibleDisability

Incontinence is an invisible disability that can affect anyone and requires greater awareness and alternatives for dignified care to mitigate its economic impact.
