I was there Gandalf, in the 90s.
I have fond memories of using this calculator growing up. It’s been stolen on several occasions from my father during moves and he’s replaced it just as many times.
When he passed, it was one of his things that I wanted, but it also mysteriously disappeared.
I purchased my own today and am happy. It’s not the calculator my father used, but it’s still a first gen 12C and it brings me joy.
YAY! Successfully upgraded my > 10 years old HP-12C's firmware to the new 2025 version which now allows to dump and restore the calculator’s memory via cable to/from my Mac. 😊 #calculator #hpcalculator #hp12c #firmware #hewlettpackard – To see your HP-12C’s firmware version: When the calc is off hold g & ENTER and press ON. Then press 2 to see the checksum, press any key to see the date, again any key to see a copyright notice, again a key to return to the 1.L 2.C 3.H menu. Press ON to exit. 😉
Meh… my RPN calculators never had a C button (that was used like that) either. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2024/10/iphone-broke-its-calculator/680271/ #hp12c #hp11c #hp15c #hp16c
@cassandracorvid @Gartenberg me too. Still use on my iPhone and I discovered I have three #hp12c at home!
I have a pretty extensive collection of #HP #calculators like the venerable #hp12c and also some of the rarer ones (#Xpander) and #hp16c and older ones like #hp71b and non-calculator ones like #hp95lx. #retro #retroelectronics #retrocomputing
Has anyone had a play with these clones? Any good? https://www.swissmicros.com/products
Working with some #fintech this afternoon. #retrocomputing #voyager #hp12c
