  1. #TIL: Because of reasons I do need to run 1 single Windows VM in my #proxmox #homlab cluster. Due to performance it uses "host" type CPUs which caused issues upon nightly PBS backup: the VM silently rebooted. Turned out the culprit was "memory integrity" in Windows security setup. Once disabled it runs fine.
Don't ask how I've figured this out...

  2. Today i added Grafana and Prometeus to my #homlab
The data flows, now i need to learn how to make cool looking dashboards.✊

  3. Slowly setting up #cubefs and I think I'm in a place now where I can try to get things in the #homelab and see how I like it better than #seaweedfs...

#homlab said na fucker! You get to work through some changes of #dagu and all your updates failing..

#homelab the hobby that is a bitch!!

  4. Oh.. The HA cluster thingy worked like a charm when the node didn't come back online. Never tested it..so now I know.

Bad thing is, the migrated VM was waiting for the disk encryption password after HA kicked in. Didn't have that in mind when I configured HA and the VM ^^

  5. Wohin packt ihr denn euer „Außer-Haus-Backup“? #homlab #selfhosted

  6. Keep learning about Ansible, VS Code, and GitHub.

Today, I published my first playbook on GitHub. Nothing super fancy, it's a simple script to update multiple servers, VMs, and LXCs running on Debian/Ubuntu. It was a valuable exercise to prepare for my next playbook, which is more ambitious (for me).

Any feedback, suggestions, and more are welcome. ☺️

  9. I've been trying for six hours to find out why I'm seeing #network #dropouts every minute today in the #monitoring of my #selfhosted services. I restarted everything, rewired everything, took the server offline on a rolling basis, and so on and so forth.

At some point I realized that both, the primary and the identically configured backup instance of my #nginxproxymanager (on a different host) are online in parallel. But hey, it wasn't #DNS this time. 🤯🤬😤

  10. Yeeee! I just bought a bunch of shit for the #homlab I don't even know if I'm ganna need it. I was in deep and said, "Fuck a this" i just hit buy.. I'll return later. I have the patience of a toddler.

  11. Next-gen #homlab testbench update:

I'm *extremely* proud or this kludgy mess of an RTX A2000 with an externally bolstered-on 40mm Noctua fan (even if the deshrouded GPU+60mm fan was actually performing much better). :blob_raccoon_heart:

The 60mm fan could actually keep the A2000 from throttling through an entire 10min real-life gaming benchmark run (#FFXIV Shadowbringers benchmark) and was on-par with the stock setup in result, while the 40mm fan actually thermal-throttled halfway through. That said, both configs were virtually silent and the fan noise was completely inaudible even at full blast! :blobfoxcomfycomputer:

Getting all this to go fully passive will be tough, despite the 70W TDP the A2000 chip runs mighty hot, but the RAM goes even hotter, the RAM chips can withstand 130°C and thermal throttle at 105°C

  12. New #firewall hardware for the #homlab finally arrived (IPU450). I've also used this opportunity to migrate from #pfsense to #opnsense 🚀

  13. I‘m thinking about to use #Debian more often than #Ubuntu for my #homlab VMs 🤔

Ubuntu server needs more resources, what I read. And I also don’t like the ads in the shell welcome messages.
But never had real issues running or updating the VMs.

  14. The pain you feel when you spent 4days on your #homlab #networking just to tear it all down and start over ### Boooooshit!

    I'm dramatic 😎

  15. Ok #homlab / #selfhosting tribe! My #storage is a little rusty!! What y'all using for like distributed storage.. I know there is ceph and minio. Is that what we got?

I'm really looking for me to be able to uses my 3 node cluster to also replicate storage across it. So like a distributed NAS I guess. What the hell am I even asking.. I'm not sure 😂

  16. this #homlab / #selfhosting stuff is never ending :). Since my #lxd cluster is backed by #OVN ( an SDN Network provided by OpenVSwitch). I can create networks on the fly for my networking ( think AWS).. Now i'm thinking to just use a reverse proxy as an ingress that is exposed to the outside world and make everything else non routable via BGP as it currently is. One way in one way out!

  17. @m4nuel @cyberfarmer For sure. For a NAS or any storage cluster in one's homelab, I can definitely recommend Scale as a viable alternative to Unraid. It is FOSS and is about as polished as it gets. I got into NixOS and like my with but if I were to start out again, I'd certainly go with TrueNAS
