  1. I'm sharing my "Medieval Demographics for hex-describe" tool here if you want to look at it.

This is WIP. You'll see me futzing with it, probably.

    Make a copy.

I've put instructions and a beginning FAQ in it.

I can't say this enough - this is tuned for my campaign. You should tweak this for your own campaign.

I should make this into a blog post.

  2. And here is Room 15: The Supply Room. Here we get close enough to Zenda that the PCs may encounter her! There is a random table dictating Where's Zenda? at any given moment from here onward.

  3. Room 10: Dangerous Corridor
    • A 20' deep Pit trap opens 20' from the corner if any organic lifeform over 50 pounds crosses the floor, triggering a silent alarm summoning guard-bots.
    • Dried husks of several 4' long insectoid creatures litter the floor of the pit.
Guard-Bots arrive on each side of the pit in 1d3 rounds (coming from areas 9 and 11).

  4. 7: Guard Barracks
    • Weapons Locker: Magnetic controls carried by Durax Overseers can open. May contain the PCs' missing equipment. Also contains 8 Laser Pistols, 8 Mono-Swords (sabers), 4 Vibro-Axes (2H). If an alarm has been called, guards will have rushed here to grab this equipment.
    • 24 Bunks. Some extra-large. Some guards have to sleep in shifts.
    • 6 Ketra Guards and 2 Rubiconian Swordsmen. Asleep and unarmed if no alarm has been raised.

  5. 6: Gym; Summary:
    • Training Area: mirrored wall, wrestling mat, wooden training weapons, weights, benches. Lots of improvised weapons, creative footwork, and dirty fighting.
    ○ There are 4 Rubiconian Swordsmen sparring with a Training-Bot. The Bot had been set to nonlethal, but one of the guards can order it "set to kill unauthorized personnel".
    ○ Swordsmen each carry a Vibro-Sword (rapier) and the Training-Bot has four short swords.
    • Sonic showers & Privies x8

  6. Room 5: Galley
    • Food for guards and prisoners is prepared here. Kitchen has knives, stoves, water, and sacks of food.
    • Metal tables, benches, trays, bowls of porridge. Plenty of things to use as cover, improvised weapons, or dirty fighting.
1 Chef-bot and 4 Ketra guards, and 1 Durax Overseer are here eating.

Chef-Bot has four arms, each holding a kitchen knife, and is programmed to cook and fight.

  7. Room 4: Orichalcum Mine

Summary: large chamber filled with pink dust where prisoners mine pink crystal. 8' tall Durax overseers with electrowhips and shock staves keep emaciated prisoners working. A smelting machine makes toxic red gas which does not seem to bother the overseers or the short and stocky Durg prisoners working in that section. Ingots of red metal pile into levitating mine carts for removal. Room lit by portable flood lights.

  8. So I've been making good progress on my #Dungeon23 #Hex23 mashup "Red Suns over Rubicon 4". But not sure how best to share it. Character limit here seems to be a real limitation, and posting images has a character limit on the image descriptors. Multi-posting is also tedious. My guess is I will need to upload these somewhere else and just share the links. But where would be the best place to post it?

  10. #Dungeon23 #Hex23 Room 1:
    1: The Cell
Your awaken with blurry vision and a pounding headache. Looking around, you see three walls of reddish stone and a set of iron bars before you. You are wearing plain, roughspun clothing. You’ve no idea how you got here, but you appear to be in some sort of prison. You do not recognize your cellmates but are surprised to discover you all seem to speak the same language.

  11. So one idea I have is to do my #Hex23 #Dungeon23 mashup as a sword and sandal fantasy, and another thought is to do this as a sword and planet science fantasy, where different planets are connected by some sort of jump gates (so instead of ships, you travel between worlds using the ancient gates).

  12. First, I had to come up with a size and shape.

I knew I wanted the hexes to be 3 miles in size. Based on the rough number of hexes I needed (31), I started looking for islands of roughly that size in real life. #Hex23 (2/🧵)

  13. While driving to-and-fro my parents house today for Xmas, I finalized some general ideas for my #dungeon23. I'm going with an Underdark excursion and I'm going to incorporate #city23 by creating a trading hub one month and #hex23 by creating a hexcrawl (well, more properly a point crawl) a few months to cover larger caverns or systems of caverns. Beyond that, I don't have much planned - I just wanted to vary things up month-to-month.

  14. PSA for my #TTRPG friends: If you're interested in #Dungeon23 but feel a bit overwhelmed by the idea of producing 365 rooms - then do a variant instead!

For example, #Hex23 is the idea that you focus on building a hexmap rather than a dungeon, but you also spend some time on making small dungeons and other things for your hexmap.

The overarching idea is: If you produce just a little content every day for 365 days, then you'll end up with a shitload of content. Consistency is key.

  15. @Archarzel I'm going to do seven rooms on a two-page spread (left is descriptions, right is map), one room per day. Those seven are a thematic group. Once I get four of those, that's a single level. Levels also have a theme. I just need to keep two themes in mind for each level. Also, gonna use the Tome of Adventure Design and my own Iron Arachne to help flesh out details. #dungeon23 (also see #hex23 for the hexcrawl version).

  16. @catshavenolord Nice! How do you plan on handling #hex23? I mean, it can be hard to make a hex a day if some hexes contain entire dungeons? Or what do you intend to put in your hexes?

  17. Today's #TTRPGDiscussion:

What are your #TTRPG plans for 2023? I know a lot of people are planning to participate in #dungeon23 and similar endeavors such as #hex23 (where you make a hex for a hexcrawl a day). Do you have anything special planned?

Personally, I will try to use @UbiquitousRat's #TinyPrep every day (as well as #dungeon23) to flesh out my game world. For info on Tiny Prep, listen to this episode of the Roleplay Rescue podcast: shows.acast.com/roleplayrescue
