@sundogplanets @LibraryFinch I discovered libraries as a great refuge while boating around the #GreatLoop. If I docked at a town with a library within walking distance, it was a great place to go to escape the heat or rain or cold and get some work done on my laptop. This was especially true when I was crew on an overcrowded boat for five weeks back in 2022, but I recently enjoyed one in Florida to escape the heat in August. (What was I thinking?)

Who says you can't get a good parking space in a big city?
I am officially done with my #GreatLoop adventure. I'll probably blog a little bit about it this evening. I've also got a ton of video footage to process, but don't expect to see any videos for at least a couple of weeks.
Right now, I'm off to get an eye exam and some #Chicago deep dish #pizza, which this Jersey Girl likes a heck of a lot better than NY thin crust.

Good morning, Mastodon! Today should be the last day of my #GreatLoop adventure! If all goes well, I'll be pulling into my slip at Chicago's DuSable Harbor Marina at about 1 PM, thus "crossing my wake." #LakeMichigan has decided to be very kind to me this morning with just the tiniest of ripples (so far), ensuring me of a smooth journey. I'm sitting on the command bridge, enjoying the fresh air. #boating #BoatLife

The wind has finally died down here in Milwaukee. Good weather forecasted for the next few days. Later this morning I'll continue on to Waukegan, where I'll likely have my boat pulled out of the water later in the week. I officially finish my #GreatLoop trip tomorrow when I cruise into #Chicago.

Well, I made it to #Milwaukee in under 2 hours. #LakeMichigan was surprisingly kind to me close to shore. I like the marina because it's small, it's nearly empty, it's in a park, and I have a pretty rocking view out my aft deck. No amenities other than power, though. I think I'll take the bike out and do some exploring; maybe find myself something interesting for lunch. #boating #BoatLife #GreatLoop

I just checked the weather in preparation for today’s cruise. I have two potential destinations: Sheboygan if conditions are a little rough or Port Washington if things are smooth. They are about 25 miles apart and Sheboygan is about 25 miles from here. So either 25 miles or 50 miles. I’d like to go 50 miles because the weather does not look good on Friday and Saturday, so the further I go the better off I’ll be. #boating #BoatLife #GreatLoop #LakeMichigan

Good morning, Mastodon! I'm under way again, traveling along Michigan's #UpperPeninsula to St Ignace, MI. #Photo shows the De Tour Reef #Lighthouse, which I passed a little while ago. It's a clear day with light winds on #LakeHuron. There's a light chop on the water that's actually pretty tolerable right now. My sinus infection is clearing up slowly, but I'm still eager to get to my destination and spend the afternoon resting up. I hope you're having a great day! #GreatLoop #boating #BoatLife

Then, after jumping through a bunch of hoops that involve a truck, a trailer, and wide load signs, I’ll have my boat back in the PNW for a month of cruising in the San Juan Islands and Desolation Sound, with and without friends aboard.

Arrived at an unmarked anchorage. Shore is rock, sand, and grass so I’m assuming it’s the same 10 feet under my boat. Holding seems good so far with just 50 feet of chain out. No town, houses, or boats in sight so I suspect I won’t have to deal with noise or wake. More exposed than I like, but if the wind doesn’t pick up or shift, I should be fine here. There are more sheltered options deeper into the bay if I need to move. For now, rest. #boating #BoatLife #GreatLoop #FightingACold

Totally off the grid for two nights. But it was worth it. I anchored in The Pool at Baie Fine off the North Channel. Lots of company but quiet, with a great hike that included wild blueberries. Here's my corner of the anchorage this morning. #boating #BoatLife #GreatLoop #NorthChannel

One of the things I mentioned in my recent blog post is how traveling by boat is so much better than traveling by RV because you have a waterfront view everywhere you go. I’m really feeling that now at my current anchorage, surrounded by water and forest, as I sit on my screened in aft deck and catch up on computer work. #boating #BoatLife #GreatLoop #GeorgianBay

Well, I managed to find a spot on a Canada Parks dock with some friends. I am the second smallest boat in this photo. 🤣 It's Ojibay Dock on Beausoleil Island on the east end of Georgian Bay. Just passed the remains of junction lock, which is where the original Erie canal meets up with the current Erie canal. The original Erie canal was built about 200 years ago and the new one is about 100 years old. There's a ton of history here. #boating #BoatLife #ErieCanal #GreatLoop

Today is a different kind of #MovingDay for me and the pups: we’re moving off the boat for a month. While the boat spends the month of April on the hard, possibly getting its bottom painted and a solar upgrade, the girls and I are joining @jfk for a cross country drive to Texas to see the #eclipse and back to my home in Washington state to get my house prepped for the summer.

It was light out when I woke up at 6:20 AM. That’s “sleeping in” in my world and I’ll take it!
Foggy outside, outgoing tide is keeping my boat snug against the dock. Thinking about blueberry pancakes for breakfast to get rid of the bisquick and blueberries.
If the sun comes out before I leave, I’ll take my pups for another hike on the island. Only 30 miles to go today; the tide changes around 8:40, but I’ll likely wait until around noon to get on my way.

As my wonderful spouse and I get closer to embracing digital-nomadship and contemplating a big downsizing I struggle with parting with my library of real books.
Some I will never give up, like my collection of signed proof and author copies of news and journalism books.
We're planning on doing the #GreatLoop, some #RV #RoadLife and search for the perfect retirement spot and I just can't keep them all.
