  1. Blog post: UK cartogram round-up open-innovations.org/blog/2024
Now that the dust has settled, this post is a round-up of some subjective thoughts on the varied cartograms that were used in the recent UK General Election.

  2. I'm not sitting up all night while they try to drag meaningful discussions out of this, I'll find out the result in the morning. Wake me up if anything particularly unexpected happens.

  4. Anyone ever done a 'community project bingo card'? Don't think people have any idea how broken the system is and how much social work type stuff small, poorly funded local organisations like us have to do. This week I have spent hours talking with hospital, police, post office and train station staff, council, housing team, GP surgery to track down a missing person and get them the help they need. Hopefully all sorted now .. absolutely none of this is my job but we have the local connections to do it. For those of you wondering where social services fits in, I could not get hold of social services at all.. was on hold for an hour and gave up. Please vote to get #ToriesOut on Thursday! #BrokenSystem #ToriesOutNow #CommunitySupport #ge2024uk #election2024

"In a referendum in 2011, PR was rejected by the public, who weren't convinced the voting system was a problem that needed to be fixed."

BBC lying about PR here. AV isn't proportional. We've never had a referendum on PR.

  13. @LadyMirtazapine you're assuming an ability to conspire and plan beyond anything Mr Sunak has yet been able to demonstrate.

Look, my 1st election (1992 ge) was in u/g holidays (and days from a major field trip), and a postal vote was trivial. If it is "too much of a hassle" for an abled bodied person to get a postal vote, then they probably shouldnt be voting.

  14. Sure sure sure, it's great we finally get to vote the Tories out, but I think we’re all losing sight of the most important question:

    Who’s anchoring the results coverage?
