Went to a concert at The Fallser in the East Falls neighborhood in Philly this past weekend. I went to see #Gangstagrass, who were the 3rd act in a triple bill. Delighted to discover #TheFlyingVees. Here they are with a song that won the WXPN 24-hour song challenge earlier this year, "Workman's Song #1"

I can imagine Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger singing this one.
If you're in Germany you can still get some hot #banjo heat on stage these days, as #Gangstagrass from US is on tour here.
also, petition for #gangstagrass to add "I'm Gonna Put You Down" to its bandcamp page.

18/20 #Gangstagrass seeks to reunite themes in American music that were artificially separated by #segregation. One example of their work is "Up High Do or Die" (2024). #HipHopCelebrationDay #UnitedStates https://youtu.be/2OYdDQTP5eU?si=ZRN4ynxlafiKVpne
That moment you’re in a bar at a hotel in Madison, Wisconsin, drinkin’ some Woodford Reaerve and Bulliet Rye and “Justified” comes up in a conversation, prompting an ear worm.

And today I learned that #bluegrass / #hiphop is a thing. Cool. Here's some #Gangstagrass for your Thursday. #music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCEHQ_nhxOA
listening to #gangstagrass be like "this song slaps." "oh wait, this one slaps too." "and this one. it also slaps."
@marsroverdriver #TIL #gangstagrass is a thing! And, oh boy!
Hip-hop and bluegrass don't sound much like they'd go together, but damn, does #Gangstagrass ever make it work. In their hands it's peanut butter and jelly -- or maybe peanut butter and chocolate, whichever you're more in the mood for.
More importantly, and more seriously, they're the cure for what ails America: living proof that we don't have to look alike to get along and make beautiful things together.
And look, you can help make more of it!

@Patricia but you do get to listen to #GangstaGrass regularly, so that's a bonus.
I'm really bad at picking up lyrics when I listen to songs the first few times. Which is confusing when listening to lyric focused music... like hiphop... or hiphop with added bluegrass.
Right now I'm listening to Freedom by #Gangstagrass and a major thing I'm catching is a verse about someone not letting a black man get a sandwich? Dick move, hypothetical someone. Let the man get a sandwich.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure this song is about racism, in a Dream-Deferred sort of way?
For me a glimmer of the emerging #Pluriverse we don’t yet hear tell enough about.
Complimentary juxtapositions from very different worlds...cadence, rhythms, POV’s you just never would've thought.
Letting things happen just isn't that hard. Through it to get to it. More of this mixin.
