  1. Sunday July 19 I want to hear from podcasters, streamers and other curators about what they want from @friendsofccmusic. Session 1 is from 7am to 10am US Central. Session 2 is from 2pm to 5pm US Central.

Most likely, at the end of the second session, I will be making a decision about whether #FCCM is going to focus exclusively on #netlabels

Sunday August 16 netlabelists will get the same treatment.

Please invite anyone you think might be interested in any of the four sessions.

    A thread...

  2. RE: mastodon.world/@friendsofccmus

trying to be better about using the #FCCM page for stuff like this.

The Listening Party is generally monthly on the last Saturday, but in April we moved it to the last Sunday (26th).

We may well have to move others. Saturday is often a bad day for me, but that is the day folks wanted.

The hope is this gets big enough that I don't need to be there.

Regarding the call to host your own, don't worry about spreading it out from 1pm US Central. Just do the time that works for you! Another thread.

  3. Nothing like ultra-cycling to clear your head...

I feel like we had some good thoughts around education in the June #FCCM meeting. I'm thinking we could lean into that for a while.

On the other hand, the ML course that was discussed this summer really went nowhere. Of course, bringing in someone from outside the #ccmusic space probably had a lot to do with that

What are some things people that are not me could teach?

    @bsots @wiloma @wjmaggos @Cheesetruck #netlabel #netlabels thoughts?

  4. Took this from a blog I am writing for @friendsofccmusic but it felt out of place. Maybe it'll make it back in in some fashion, but I figured I would drop it here while #FCCM is discussing tax status.

"Personally, I take it as a given that CC Music is a public good. There are many music 501c3s. Creative Commons HQ is a 501c3. Seems like a no-brainer that doing things for CC Music is in the public good."

If you would be interested in writing for the Friends of CC Music blog, please let me know

  5. so, I guess another we could do is host a ccmusic-specific Mastodon server. I think this could possibly have legs. @wjmaggos @Cheesetruck @bsots @tmray thoughts on the thread?

This would mean a full embrace of bandwagon.fm/ & whatever tools are connected to the #fediverse. I haven't paid a lot of attention to those tools because I haven't thought they played a huge role for #FCCM, but they could!

    As always, please boost.

    #ccmusic #netlabels #netlabel #netnativemusic #music

  6. #musicians if #fccm were to put on courses in the future what sorts of courses would you like to see? Don't worry about how we'd do it we can figure that out later.

    Some starter broad topics:
    Languages
    Legal
    Technology
    Music
    Stage
    Video
    Marketing
    History
    Bicycles
    Fitness
    Health (including mental)
    Safety

All courses will be released as CC BY (unless a presenter feels strongly about CC BY-SA and then we'll do that)

    As always, plz boost

  7. Is there an open source music platform without a foundation or business?

If so, perhaps that is a project @friendsofccmusic could coalesce around. Part of the intention of the #FCCM name was to not set up a good/bad dichotomy of open vs closed. Lots of folks have a foot in both scenes, including @blocsonic.

Still, I think there needs to be an org above any such tech project that focuses on issues outside of open source.

#floss is my day job so I have a good idea of the effort there

    #ccmusic

  8. "information doesn't want to be free, people do" - @pluralistic

I've been trying to think thru a mission statement for #FCCM before tomorrow, if only for myself. The sense of connection is what I love about music. To the artist but also other fans. Music as a chain of recommendations and inspiration for new work. Sharing and supporting artists. Payola and paywalls fuck with that sense of community.

So I'm not here for #ccmusic itself but imo it's essential to getting what I think we all want.

  9. I want the new #fccm Mastodon to be on kpop.social for lulz and this is 100% why someone else should be in charge.

  10. Please pass this along to anyone that you think might be interested! calendar.app.google/XvSKeWEgxt -- You don't need to RSVP (although that would be nice). You don't need to be there for the whole day.

Link on the day will be the link #fccm always has been using: meet.jit.si/ccmusic

    Agenda:
    Articles of Incorporation/ByLaws
    Community Building
    Branded Electronic Shows
    Stakeholder orgs
    IRS filing status
    Steering Committee
    Website & Logo
    Live Shows
    Fundraising
    CC CMA
    CC Hall of Fame
    Elections

  11. @wjmaggos would you be interested in writing a "what do we do now?" social media article for the #fccm site? The audience here would be musicians trying to promote their music, which I understand is not the view you have on things but I'm not sure who else in the group has spent as much time thinking about it. I suppose we could work on something during one of the weeknight working sessions

  12. @dlikdh just to be clear the nightly working sessions are not solely for the website but that's probably where a lot of the work is going to go pre-25th. Do you have access to the website backend?

will have to think hard about how to deal with #netlabels so as to not duplicate the work of NLG. Perhaps @blocsonic would be interested in making NLG an official #FCCM project.

@wjmaggos did the redesign work but I think there's a curation page. that's probably the best spot for @clongclongmoo .

  13. It's probably a good org but the list of donators is super not encouraging. Not going to link to them on the #fccm site: commonsense.org/

  14. I've got on my calendar 6:30pm US Central to work on #fccm / #ccmusic / #netlablel stuff. Mostly depending on my wife's schedule, but also my own on-call schedule and bike race schedule I won't literally be able to make that time every day.

Still, if it would be useful/interesting for folks, I could hold office hours then on jitsi and record the sessions

Could be a way for us to more rapidly iterate on various projects.

    Thoughts? @wjmaggos @ryno @blocsonic @strypey @bsots (1 of at least 2)

  15. @wjmaggos have you had a chance to watch/listen to the CC Next pilot yet? I wonder if doing another episode of that might be more useful for folks making a decision than a new release show. I could go either way. one thing we'd have to try to avoid is turning it into a #FCCM planning session though

  16. it's hard to really do a pilot for a show with no guiding focus but one thing that would be of interest if that was a direction to go would be talking about whole foods. Aside from fiber, I'm not convinced, although there are clearly things not on nutrition labels like creatine.

the one sure thing here is that folks could sample those because I'd release CC BY-SA

still not sure if something like that belongs at #fccm. that doesn't mean it isn't worth doing off FCCM site.

  17. 12 minutes left on the SD processing on the #FCCM page and then at some point after that, it will sync with the #peertube: dalek.zone/c/cc_community_musi

  18. We ran into some technical difficulties with OBS, so this is on my YouTube for now. I will put this on the #fccm page when I get a chance, and that will sync to the #peertube

  19. and I am going to Tahoe in Sept without her, but unless #FCCM gets serious about doing global events, I'm not going to be traveling internationally without her.

Although, I should note that I have been listening to domestic Amateur Traveler episodes as well.

We aren't going to be visiting Texas or Florida, so you can just keep those suggestions to yourself.

  20. if I ever bring back #obsidian sounds like #greenobsidian might be a good name for a Spanish language version though of course they would have spoken Nahuatl. Don't think a #Nahuatl show would do well but hey if someone wanted to do one I'd be happy for #FCCM to host it.
